Greetings!

Having bought a K&N kit for my new sporting I found out that it hasn't got the breather hose in it! I have emailed K&N asking if it's available as a separate part, which I suppose it is (but they'll make me pay for the privelige), but was wondering if there is a cheaper alternative... i.e. just using a piece of rubber tubing that matches the length and diameter of their hose?

Could someone who has this kit measure the length and internal diameter of their breather hose so I know what to look for? Also, I've noticed that the original breather hose is filtered... is the one with the K&N kit filtered or not?

Thanks in advance.

Al.

This is going back a bit but the breather hose is modified from the original Fiat one that goes from the cam cover to the airbox, I can't remember if there is a small diameter hose that comes with it however this maybe the part your missing.

So the new breather hose goes from the end of the old one attached to the cam? What about the hole that is created by cutting the smaller hose off near the end of it? Gaffa?

Does anyone who has installed this kit on their 1.1 cinq have any pics of it so I can see how it all links up. The diagrams only go so far to illustrating how they fit together. I'm gonna give it another go tomorrow so I'll let you all know how it goes.

If K&N sells you this kit I would kindly ask them to supply it with the bits needed.

I feel I must say at this point that I bought the kit second hand and the guy who sold it to me cannot find the bit, so it's going to be a new part from K&N or a bodged bit of piping, however a picture of a correctly installed kit will tell me whether I am being a retard or not. Can anyone help me there?

As far as I remember from taking K&N filters of the Centos to throw them in the bin (sorry, I had to mention it:D), it is a 16mm plastic (PP) elbow, which you should be able to get from outlets like Parker frenchaises (hydraulic hoses).

It should go straight into the hole of the filter and connect to the breather hose.

Here are the fitting instructions for an spi & (somebody else's pic I had saved) giving you a clue of what their installation looked like...

Hope this helps.

I had been dubious about the complaints people have about TB mounted filters, but have to admit I been impressed by the GSR since I swapped from the Mpi version of the K&N (although it was in conjunction with a 40mm TB upgrade done at the same time).

Sure you'll do some reading up, but make sure you get a good cold air feed sorted out BEFORE fitting the K&N unless ALL you want is noise.

Cheers Smiler121, that's exactly what I needed to see. I already have the instructions and with them and the picture I can see I definitely have a part missing. I don't suppose you know if the cold air feed in that pic is just a vent from the front of the bumper or something more elaborate?

take a vent from behind the bumper...or something like this...

Doing what Brooky suggests you'll loose the mixer for warm air on a cold start which is about the only plus of the setup in the pic I posted.

This doesn't have to be looked at as such a bad thing - you'll gain extra space under the bonnet & loose the weight of all the extra bits you take out.

A feed set up as shown by Brooky (the arrangement I used when I had a K&N on my Mpi) should more freely flow air over the filter.
