Basically, the Cinqs MOT is coming up in a few days and its going to fail... probly just going to be shocks, tracking, handbrake and rear brake cylinders, but theres always something that crops up  The engine tappets are tapping away and gbox isnt great but that shouldnt effect MOT.

The cinq was the GFs learner car, but i'm giving her one of the MK2 puntos in 4 weeks when insurance comes up, so now i have a spare Cinq 899 SX in the garage.

What should i do with it? I could either sell it/scrap it/break it as is, do the repairs and sell, or do an interesting project on it - but what?

If i were to do a project, i wouldn't want to spend more than about £300 on it, and i wouldn't be able to start until after christmas (with xmas, insurance, 2x MOTs and 2x Tax coming up all within the space of 3 months :( ).
I was toying with the idea of a RWD cinq a few weeks ago, with a bravo 1.6/1.8 engine and gbox in the boot. I think i have my head around most things, just weight distribution could be an issue (removing all weight from the front and putting even more in the back = major lack of grip on front end?) I have done tons of arc welding in the past and some oxy-acetylene, so picking up new welding methods shouldn't be an issue, and so im fairly confident i could strengthen the rear end of the cinq and manufacture a 'cage' to mount the engine in without problems. Doing this within budget will be very tight, but if im patient and keep my eyes peeled for bargins, i think i could manage it. One of the questions i have with this tho is making it roadworthy. What procedures would i have to go through, would it have to pass an SVA for example?

If you have any other ideas for it, lemme know (y)

300 quid budget to project it wont get you far

if you want shut sell as spares or repair on ebay no reserve

You won't do much of a project off 300 quid - if you were to do it properly then the suspension and brakes would polish that off no problem.

lol to be fair, i dont think it will stay sub 300, just didnt want people coming up with crazy £1000s conversions.

I have been tempted to just ebay it. might start it at £100 and if it doesn't sell for that, i wouldnt wanna sell - even if it is using up garage space at the mo

My initial plan was to buy a drivable written-off/spares-repairs bravo or brava and strip it for all the parts i would need, then sell any other usable parts worth breaking. Theres often a few on ebay going cheap, and by selling some of the parts off i should be able to lower my costs. Most of them seem to be the 1.4s but im hoping for something 100+bhp if i go ahead with it.

300 still seems very tight, i would be prepared to go as far as £500 but certainly no more than that. steel for the cage and reinforcement isnt a problem - i have plenty of chunky box section i could use. For the brakes, i'd want to use punto GT calipers on the rear, not sure about the front yet. The front suspension would need to be changed due to the lack of weight, hopefully for the rear i could use the bravos shock/springs.

its still an idea at the moment so don't get me wrong - im not one of these 'ima do a conversion' and never do anything kinda people... i honestly dont know what im going to do with it yet so all advice/suggestions are greatly apprieciated! (y) Id really love to do something cool with it tho rather than say bye to it :(

An unrealistic project to go alongside an unrealistic budget :D

I wouldn't have said that - there's plenty of options for a project on £500 if, and I stress IF, you are handy (or have a mate that is) with the spanners.

Case in point would be the kid locally who put a 2.0 Turbo from an RS2000 into his Fiesta Si... not costly if you have the skills to pay the bills

thats where the likes of vauxhalls are so popular for modding.
plenty of engines that easily swapped out.so the likes of the 2 litres innovas/corsas or 3.0 v6ers in vectra/cavs
