General EU ban on non-standard exhausts, much madness - stop brussels!

Bit late for a petition isn't it, if the ban is already happening and coming into force next year?

And as if the government could ban this in reality, how can you define a 'sports exhaust', how can you force people to replace them, and then there's the revenue lost by banning them.

I have a feeling these petitions get started because of some mis-quoted MP trying to get themselves publicity. Who remembers the huge mosque being built in south london, then the banning of the red arrows at the olympics. And many more I can't remember now as its getting late.

Does anyone have a link to the legislative act itself? The "More details" are very vague on what is to be banned and how an exhaust will be deemed illegal.

Get out wile we can and F**k the EU
Let's have a world war and start a new.
Too many beurocrats talking crap,
And overpaid ministers that need the sack....

Well the Italians do bugger all what anybody tells them, particularly the EU, then the French are almost the same, why do we in England follow like lambs?

We need another Cromwell, oh and to get rid of the faceless gits in Whitehall that seem to run the country without being in any Political party... the Civil Servants!

What about Lambos and such cars will they be baned on having sporty exhausts fitted or is it just aftermarket ones.

They've been banning sports exhausts for the last 20 years.
I remember when they had a go at bike exhausts, so now it has to be type aproved.
How many bikes do you hear with race silencers on??
Lots!!

I think there should be some control on noise levels as some vehicles are stupidly loud.
Companies like Supersprint already conform to type aproval regulations so will adapt to any more.

Yes, totally agree with all comments on this so far, especially cc1 and Ffoxy :slayer:.

I think we always have to suck up to the EU because in the last 20 years we've shut down most of our producing industries and buy in everything from abroad, so we can't sustain ourselves anymore. Which means we're scared to death of being 'cut off' by mainland Europe. So, we doff our caps, say 'Yes Sir, Mr EU Sir' and do whatever they tell us. How the hell did we go from being the most powerful nation on earth, then won 2 World Wars, to end up being Europe's bitch??? IT HAS TO STOP!!

Anyway, this is meant to be a car, not politics forum, and there's no way I'm putting standard exhausts back on my cars, they can b******s! If it comes down to it (and I suspect this might all be a storm in a teacup until I investigate it further), I'll just get a standard exhaust from the scrappy and fit it on MOT day and take it off after, like some do with cats.

Bring on the revolution :slayer:

T o my understanding this is a total misrepresentation of what is alowed and what isn't.

Type approval isn't necessarily a bad thing. Being in the industries for a long time and seeing how many people have been conned by certain frenchaises I welcome some more control, which only brings up the product quality because standards have to be adhered to.

This also is in some way a protection against abuse from the authorities. An exhaust then can't be deemed to loud without the right equipment for testing. Just because it seems to be loud does not mean it contravenes the law.

Its much like the new towbar regs that came out in 1998. All towbars had to be subject to testing before being certified for fitting to cars.

Fine, up to a point.

But

No certification required for a commercial vehicle, so all pick up towbars are uncertified, and probably at danger of towing far more weight than any car.

And

The certification testing involves hitting the towbar several thousand times with a large weight.

If the towbar was actually mounted to the car, rather than the test rig, the car would be destroyed long before the towbar!!

Cheers

Italy September 2007.
Motorbikes, mopeds and scooters, 1 to 4 people on board most with no helmets, Police dont bat an eyelid.
Cars parked on Zebra crossings, no tickets issued.
Drivers with no seatbelts eating and drinking while driving in towns, again no response from Police.
Vehicle condition unimportant as long as it goes.
Everyone drives and rides everywhere as fast as they can.
Red traffic lights considered advisory.

This is not an exageration, but fact, witnessed in the city of Naples.

And you know what? The people are as de-stressed and happy as F*ck!

Nanny England is legislating against anything and everything, taking away personal responsibility.

Rant over.

Do you reckon this would affect the Channel Islands, i dont think it would cos were not actually part of the EU, but there could still be some change.....will not be happy if that comes over here!

Yeah, very much like that in Rome. Scooters are the worse offenders, although we saw one get knocked over. No suprise really.

well my exhaust is really loud but i have a writen statement by the local chief constable at my local plod station saying my exhaust noise is well within the legal limit (y) ( i needed it to threaten my MoT testers so i could pass my MoT- they failed me on noise!)

so im defonatily not going to change it for the EU if i havent changed it for an MoT

also i dont think its going to get any quieter when i d-ecat :p :slayer:

Absolutely brilliant OxO :slayer: !!!!

I would have loved to see the face of that 'jobsworth' MOT tester when you presented him with that letter and he had to give you a pass. Ha ha! Top marks there, mate (y) . I love it when stuff like that happens.
Just out of interest, how did you go about getting a statement from the plod?
