hiya,
my sei is missing a lil bit on tick over, i think it may be the plugs cos they are the standard fiat champions, it still has standard leads as well.

anyone else had trouble??

i love novas but its time for a change

aye plugs are worth a try, leads very rarely fail in my experince and it they do they oviously track out somewhere.
you might want too look into headgasget diagnosis.

Yes, I've got the problem and I'm still trying to solve it [V]

Run the engine with the bonnet open on a dark night and look for sparks on the ignition leads, spark plugs and the ignition coil(s). I've found sparks on all of those, and I've got new plugs and leads. Also try to have gaps between the ignition leads. I cleaned my ignition coil and painted it with a insulating varnish and it's MUCH better now.

The misfiring has gone when idle and only happens when I move the throttle pedal, but my car's pinking a bit when I drive it. Do you get pinking? It sounds like the cat heat shield rattling a bit. I took it to a garage for an electronic diagnosis and they said that there's nothing wrong with the car. It cost me £61.10, but I know it's not normal. A mechanic at another garage said it's a slight misfire, but the didn't have the equipment to diagnose it.

If the plugs are over a year old then it's probably worth changing them anyway. When I changed my plugs and leads the problem was reduced a lot for the first few days, but soon came back :(

Hmm, that doesn't sound like pinking, I can't understand why it ticks when you stop :(

I may have found the solution now, I think it was coked up. After a bit of thrashing it's improving, I think the coil etc. was dodgy too though and that probably cause the engine to coke up.

Is it a proper misfire or just a slight unevenness? Centos do seem to do this.. alternatively could be a head gasket thingB)

My one is uneven, but it also misfires. After sorting my ignition coil it is a LOT better though, but still not perfect. I'm not sure what I'm going to do next [V]

well it never misses when driving it and the head gasket couldn't have gone at 46k.
i will change the plugs and leads and post back

Yeah, my car never misses when I'm driving it. The gasket could've gone at 46k, this is a Sei we're talking about and they have been known to go well before 46k.

The problem's not too bad now and you can barely hear the misfire. Cleaning and varnishing (with insulating varnish) the ingition coils worked really well. It's still not quite right though, I may end up replacing the coils (£50) [V]
