Yeah, it's a problem that is haunting me at the moment. I have some dodgy rust spots on the wheel arches. How do I get rid of them? I was thinking if I sand it all back and whack some hammerite on? But what about re-painting?

Thanks in advance,

It does happen, I have spent the last two weeks removing underseal from mine and there are lots of rusty bits under the underseal.

To improve your car, sand or wire brush the corrosion until you get to shiny, but lumpy metal. Keep going till you get to the shiny stuff. Skim of filler, then sand smooth, prime and paint. Don't be tempted to leave either filler or primer on the car without a top coat. They are both porous. If you have to do the job in stages be prepared for a flat back each time.

Cheers

after the "grounding" incident at Stanford, I'm gonna have to rustproof where the underseal has been ripped off. Same apply as the above on the wheel arches? The metal is shiny so will a quick layer of hammerite do? What products are good and more importantly, value for money?

Thanks again,

Sie

when you say good quality....what would you recommend? I'm gonna give it a good doing this Thursday. I'll work on the arches too

well, I should really rustproof where Ive had to remodel for the grp N centre pipe, but seen as that may only be on the road for a day or so before going off again, i'll sort it then!

Well, currently she has no oil (it was full of crap and stunk of petrol due to an accident with a fuel line and an absence of the rocker cover!!), im just leaving the RTV to set prior to refilling it. It still needs retiming, then its being blasted!

i had a rust spot in my cinq on the back of me car in the boot so i just put oil on it and now it seems to be better is that an okay way about doing it. it is less rusty brown and more black and i feel it has stopped. i am going to keep my eye on it i hope it does not spread.

Sie, oil may help a bit (It stops oxygen getting to it).

Depends, I think the rust there is fairly common on Centos (Ive seen it on a mates 98 Sei:I).

I wouldnt go that far with it, if its worrying yu, take some paint off around it (P80 grit is good!) and follow rallycinq's advice.

Its probably from galvanic corrosion (posh words :Iooh) around the weld seams (That joint was probably spot welded, and they are prone to rusting slightly - very very quickly[:-I])
