Help
My Sei has decided to stop blowing hot air from the controls and only produces cold air, even when car has been running for an hour or so and in heavy traffic. This just started in the last 2 weeks or so.

Anyone got any clues as to the problem?

Could it be the thermostat?

thanks guys

its porbably unlikely, do the other checks, like checking the oil for a white cream stuff (oil)

i could be wrong, but i'm sure its one of the effects. i'm not trying to scare you, but i'd check the water to rule it out.

if not, and its running fine, it will be something to do the the heaters them selves.

weird
Just checked the water coolant reserv tank and it was almost EMPTY - Thus explaining no Hot air. But why could it be so empty when it really only required small toppings up every few months? I just came back from 2 weeks holiday and it had no usage, so maybe put it down to that? There are no obvious leaks underneath of stray water. No sign of Mayo at all in engine oil etc.
One thing i will add is that the rubber hose on top of the water coolant tank (which leads onto the air filter area) seems crusty underneath. Why would this be?
took the car a test run and all is fine now re the hot air.
cheers
Mikey

Make sure you have bled the water system fully and that you keep checking the water level. Head gasket failure is usually an effect rather than a cause, so if the engine has got hot because there is no water in it can cause the HG to fail.

At least its not a cock problem.

how do i go about beedling the water system ?

thanks

There are bleed screws. I don't know about a Sei but look behind the drivers side headlamp for a tube with a screw in fitting on the end. Similarly, on the pipe from the heater to the engine their could be a similar looking fitting in the middle of the pipe.

Because the water bottle is at a low level, air can get trapped in the heater area. Open the valve(s) and add water to the water bottle until only liquid is coming out.

If there are two valves do the heater one first.

cheers mate i'll do that tonight.

car was fine going into work today. Water level seems ok.

The more i think, i keep a check on the water reserv tank VISUALLY every 2/3 weeks or so. I thought the darkend line at the max level was where the water was always sitting. But it does look like i was mistaken and have been lookin at a stain where the water usually sits. So i may have not been filling up as regular as i should, doh! I'll keep an eye out though and bleed the beggar tonight,

cheers

im no far from the racecourse, nearer the railway station. Handy for gettin into Edinburgh centre quick time (7 mins)! just moved here at wintertime. Its good.
