Hi guys

I've just won some 13x7J wheels on eBay, i've got 6 Cinq Sporting Alloys, i stripped that mint yellow cinq & swapped two of my crap alloysfor 2 with BN tyres, so i have 4 almost new 165/55/13s.

i've seen a pic of Alaina's 15x7s with 165/50s but i'm wondering if anyones tried 165/55s on 7s? Should give a bit of stretch, when i looked them up their recommended size wheel is 4.5j-6j.

Not cutting corners but these are stopgap wheels until i get my 14" KN Minator (MLs) refurbed (which have like new tyres on), so i dont want to be spending £200+ on tyres i'm going to use for a few months tops, and the cinq will be a weekend car anyway!

Stretching tyres is a hazard on any cars and being a cinq (handling car) using too-stretched tyres on could be a bad thing as i don't want them pinging off when i'm driving..

Also Is it illegal to have a stretch on the tyre?

U need to take a tyre and a wheel down to an experienced tyre fitter and let him try it. I think it should be ok, as its the same size tyre as alainas just a smaller diameter. Just keep an eye on the tyre pressures.

Out of interest much did you get the wheels for? :D

I have considered this previously, I cant see many problems tbh. There are wheels with more stretched tyres out there.

so far ive had no problems with my stretched tyres apart from the fact i go through tread like nothing on earth, have to replace my front 2 about once every 3 months

you'l be running the same tread as i am ie the 165 part - just your side wall will be slightly bigger.

id ask a specialist if i were you before doing a stretch as we all know its the only contact you have with the road. - my only concern would be that having a larger side wall might shift the pattern of stress on the side wall. ie more side wall so more weight shifter on to it, ideally you want as little stress there as possible as thats the part which will give.

check maybe with dubmiester or another euro specialist to see if they will advise you.
and as ross says not many garages will fit them. :)

right well i've done some investigation, it will look like this..

the tyres i have on my sporting wheels are in very good condition, and seeing as theyre not going to be used for too long (while i refurb the MLs) i think it should be alright.. i'm not really looking to spend 200+ fitting for a new set of tyres that are going to be used for a short time.. i could just use the sporting wheels and not bother with the 7s but after a trial fit theyre perfect fitment.. no rubbing, et30 approx using a tape measure with a nice dish.

opinions..

looks sexual imo.

Not every tyre fitter will do it though.

Edit - I have found that pirellis are quite thin for 165s anyways and nangkangs are quite bulky for 165s. So thats as stretched as they will get.
