Just had my daughters 1998 Seicento S at garage. Suddenly started running rough on motorway - would not go above 40 mph - very rough running - losing power and chugging - had to be towed back to be on safe side. Garage checked CAT - burnt out - engine had been overfuelling - CAT replaced, plus a sensor ( engine temp I think), and a replacement injection unit - still no joy although overfuelling seems to have stopped running status is just the same. Mechanic thinks may be ECU - waiting tester to check.

Car has blue and red keys supplied so presumably has immobiliser. Any idea which is more likely, ECU or other fault? If replacement ECU needed will it need to be recoded or are keys recoded to ECU. What do we look for if buying an ECU salvaged - as the cost of a new one is astronomical and we have already spent more than enough ?

All help greatly appreciated :)

Sounds like a slightly hapazard way of assessing the problem without using the tester first.

The temp sensor sounds like a good guess, but for the sake of another £25 get someone in to test the components before fitting anymore.

Cheers

D
