hi guys,

ever since i bought my sei i had this ongoing leaking oil problem. now me n dad changed the sump gasket and we are certain its done well. however, the car still leaks oil very slowly. even when turned off i find swabs of oil on the floor after a while.

apart from this i have quite an uncomfortable gearbox. the 1st is such a pain to get it in, sometimes it simply refuses to accept it! also the reverse doesnt go in either.

im wondering if the two incidents are related in any way, any help will be much appreciated!

just to let you know the sei has only been 4 months in my care :)P) and we changed the oil and pretty much gave it a service but havent solved the oil problem!

any ideas??

cheers,
Chris

Does the the oil level of the engine getting low? If it does you have an oil leak from the engine. If not you probably have a gearbox leak which is from the seals and is very easy to fix.

yes from the dipstick, it always lowers by time so i guess its an engine leak :/

Try to locate the oil leak wash the engine it will be clearer where this oil leak is comming from.

Regarding the grears have you tried to adjust the clutch ?

right, havent adjusted the clutch but i doubt it is from that. im going to ceck the gear oil as we havent changed that. im sure an oil change wud do it good too :)

thanks for the help so far!

^ my dad suggested that, but to no avail (or no noticable difference) i also tried the following:

try putting it in first, then back to free releasing the clutch then back into 1st. sometimes it works sumtimes it doesnt so its more or less useless and time consuming :s

Check the clutch pedal travel. I had very similar symptoms to you - 1st and reverse were reluctant/wouldn't go in at all. My cable snapped as I was adjusting the pedal travel.

OMG! I'm having the EXACT same problem with my seicento! I've had it 8 months now and the clutch cable had snapped 4 times and ive had the clutch replaced once. Since i had the clutch replaced, the cable has snapped once since then (they said they only put one pin in the cable when it should have been two) and its very close to going again. Ever since i had the new clutch it grinds into reverse and struggles to get into 1st. Theres also a leak coming from the front of the car.

Please tell us if u manage to fix ur problem, it would help alot! =)

well i havent got to it yet but my dad is saying that the oil problem is most probably related to the rear oil seal. regarding the clutch, yours has snapped way too many times for just 8 months ownership! :|

i'll get back to you as soon as i fix the probs!
cheers,
Chris

Did you have the release bearing changed at the same time? Have you checked the pedal travel?
