Does anyone have a list of causes of terrible misfiring and uneven running with the only clue being the above warning light coming on intermittently?
Main dealer has checked on the diagnostic computer and it doesn't answer the problem.
Lambda sensor has been changed.
Fuse box has been checked for looseness.
 Fiat Seicento Sporting year 2000

Firstly take the main dealer and shoot him. It can't be that difficult with examiner to check the operation of the sensors, if they can be arsed.

Check the vacuum pipes around the TB for splits, missing bits, or full of goo, as a start.

;) Thanks, Rallycinq, I will get on to this and let you know what happens. Don't hold your breath

Well, it's been on the "Examiner Smart" and the errors detected by the Control unit were:
Rpm sensor Intermittent
Throttle potentiometer Intermittent
Pressure sensor Intermittent
Active Diagnoses:
Component activation Test results
Stepped motor Positive
Rev counter signal Positive
Fuel pump relay Positive
Injector Positive
Unfortunately because the car is Van Aaken turbocharged they have no idea whether these are relevant or not. Personally I don't think the fact that it is turbocharged is that relevant because this misfiring and warning light comes on at low revs in normal driving; when the turbocharger engages the car goes like a rocket with no misfires.
Any comments from anyone as to whether these results relate to the presenting symptom of rough running and the "injection system failure warning light" coming on?
 VG

I obviously missed the Van Aaken bit, maybe your dealer took one look at it and with product liability laws as they are, wisely walked away.

Throttle pot should not be intermittant, so that may be a starting point.

hi,
i have a non-turbo 1.1 8v lump and had vey similar probs.
Get some ht lead testers(halfords £8ish)to check for correct spark, get hold of a timing light and check spark against cam pully mark on all leads.if spark is alright, check colour of plug tips and their condition.should be nice brown colour, black=too rich, white=too lean, oily deposits=big problem.
if it only does it at idle chances are it will be map sensor so check for leaks (as mentioned).if that doesn't solve it then try and change crank sensor, knock sensor and check water temp sensor for operation(test with multimeter on ohm setting and get a mate with a steady hand to wave a source of heat beneth probe). If that still does nothing then start checking fuel side cos i would hate to say it is e.c.u.
my problems where crank sensor failure, leakage on throttle body and one side of one coil had packed up.total cost £30 from salvos in heanor, derbyshire.

all the best and good luck

I just posted on a similar problem. I would go with throttle potentiometer. My car was rough on low revs acceleration and perfect at speed. diagnostic gave lots of old faults..thats the trouble, it stores them , the only one that kept coming back after clearing them was potentiometer. Replaced it and now no probs.

Well, you can all raise your category to genius level.
The throttle potentiometer has been changed and the problem is cured.
This does come with a health warning, the bill was £676.01 !!!
Thank you to all who entered this dialogue

£676. OUCH!!!

I've had 4 or 5 Vignale Gamines. Pic of my old one attached. And my Scootacar in the background.

Yes I am bonkers.. ;)

Nice Gamine. Ours was salmon pink and in lovely condition. Sold it because it didn't get used enough.
