Driving home from work the other day and when I pressed the clutch peddle "BANG" and the peddle went stright to the floor luckily i was only about 100 yards from home . I got a cable from Fiat in Wigan (£13,25) and I now I am going to try a fix it myself. Hers the Q, How difficult is the job and where do I start and might it not be the cable, but something else ?.
Best regards
John

i havent even got a split pin in the end of mine but a keyring loop. works to an extent. apart from once when it worked its way off as i was driving.

Gaz and others

Make sure you have a 10mm socket for the two nuts that hold the clutch cable plate to the bulk head. a 13mm socket for the nut that holds the air filter to its bracket so you can get at the clutch lever end of the cable, a posi screw driver to remove the metal plate in the foot well so you can get at the split pin, a pair of long nose pliers to remove the split pin from the old cable end behind the carpet and a small amount of grease.

1. Jack the car up and make safe and secure, remove the air filter and front nearside wheel.

2. Undo the nut at the lever end of the cable and remove both nut and large rubber thingy and push it through the hole its fed through.

3. Using a 10mm socket or ring spanner take of the two nuts that hold the clutch cable fixing plate to the bulk head.

4. Take note of the gasket it will be stuck to the bulkhead, remove and clean it up if need be.

5. If the bent metal strip has broken you should be able to pull the complete cable minus the broken bit through the bulkhead into the engine compartment.

6. Inside the passenger foot well there should be a black metal bracket with two posi screws at the bottom and one at the top, remove the bracket and you can then access the plastic lever.

7.Tie up the clutch peddle with string to the steering wheel so that you can get to the split pin more easily and remove the split pin and the small washer behind it and the broken piece of the cable should fall away.

8. You are now ready to replace the cable, offer the cable up to the hole in the bulkhead not forgetting the gasket and rebolt into place making sure that the cable is pointing downwards toward the steering rack.

9. Return to the foot well and pass the bent metal piece of the cable through the hole in the plastic lever.

10. Now the tricky bit and this is where the grease comes in handy, put a small blob of grease onto the washer and press it against the plastic lever (this will help to keep it in place while you get the split pin back in place).once you have managed to do that small but tricky job its time to bend the cable upwards and route it back through the hole and through the lever near the gearbox.

11. Put the rubber thingy back on to the threaded end of the cable and then screw the nut back on as well.

That’s about it really just put the wheel back on but don't put the air filter back just yet because if you do and the nut on the threaded end isn't right you will have to take it of again (the air filter) to alter the adjuster nut. once you have the clutch peddle right the jobs done you can wash yer hands make a brew put all yer tools away and test drive it. PS don’t forget to put the bonnet down before you raz of down the street. :):):)
Best regards.
John.

Is it the same process to replace the cable on a Seicento? or is this only for a Cinq.

Thanks,
Gav.

parts of it are very similer, but i will give a quick run down as to how i have done it

1. Remove passenger front wheel and arch lining - although it can be done without it, but its a pain

2. Remove carpet from inside passenger footwell to reveal a metal box (not sure what this is), this box will need to be removed so you can get access to the clutch cable

3. Un-screw cable inside the bonnet

4. Where the cable goes into the car, there are 2 bolts holding it to the body of the car, these will need removing

5. Go back inside car and pull cable through

6. Remove split pin from bit that has snapped assuming its snapped at the hook end, it goes into a white triangle shaped thing (sorry cant be more specific)

7. Now reverse everything and hopefully you will have a working clutch cable

I am bound to have missed something out, please tell me if i have
