on the way home last night i pulled away at a junction and as i changed into second gear the gearstick just when loose and i couldnt get it into any gear. it was as though the gearstick had become detached from the linkages etc.

had to park the car down a side street and get a lift with a mate.

we reckon the linkage has gone on the gearbox/gearstick or summat similar. has this happened to anyone else and is it an expensive thing to fix?

havent had the car towed to a garage yet and want to get an idea of the price it should cost to fix so i dont get fleeced.

i believe there are two cables. can they bought individually or in pairs from a dealer? obviously if only 1 has snapped i dont want to buy 2.

Yures is an 899cc, right?

The one I just sold got a GB prob abt 3hrs after I sold it![:0]

Check the points where the cables go thru the support bracket to the gearbox (Its on the point the GB and engine connect, yu might want to take the airbox off)- my old one had lost a clip that secures the cables into this support bracket (each cable should have a beefy metal clip holding it in nearest the gearbox side of the bracket)

Both of those may have gone, or even at the gearstick end. Also check the points where these cables attach to the GB- one is attached to an arm (secured by an allen key) and the other one connects to a rod by a clip, check these are both on, if theyre not on its a cheap repair!
