Hey peeps,

My other half owns a fiat seicento 1.1sx on a 2001 plate (Y reg). The problem she is having is that the ECSF is continuously flashing on her dash board. Can anybody advise what the problem is with the car?

She had a look through the owners hand book which confirmed the following description along the lines of:

“Protecting the environment, a system for continued emission system component to ensure greater environmental protection is fitted in vehicle???” or something like that!

If its mpi it could be a failed cat being picked up, otherwise if could be loads of things.

missfiring (plug/leads)
fuel filter or pump
air filter

Loads of things can cause it to come on.

When was it last serviced?

It is an MPI model and agree with everything kritip has said with what to check

May also be the oxygen sensor at fault, however a diagnostic would show up more than likely the problem.

The light may go out over time, but that doesnt mean the problem has gone

Easiest option -- find somewhere with a code reader for your car (FIAT dealer is the obvious bet, but often not the cheapest) and the code should reveal the problem. You can then either opt to fix ityourself, or get them to.
