Hi,

rang around a few places as my GF desperately needs 2 new tyres 175/50r14. They've said there's not even a production date. Surely Pirelli can't have stopped making them?

Can anyone help out please or provide alternatives?

I'm thinking of maybe getting soem cheap 15s from Halfords with tyres, think they do £299 deals, is this a viable alternative or will they scrape?

Thanks for any help.

just rang somewhere else and was told that Yoko done one, £85.00, I asked what model and he said they're a budget tyre! LMAO, double-checked it was for 2 then was ready to book in and he said that actually it was for 1!

I had 2 Pirelli P6000's fitted last saturday at a cost of £140 so might be a better idea to fit 185/50/14's all round as these are easy to pick up and are cheaper.

Not a great alternative as the fit is likely to be a bit difficult and the gearing may be just too high, reducing the fun factor.

A better alternative might be 6J 14s. With these you can fit 195/45/14s. The Uniroyal Rainsports are designed by God and come in at around £50 per corner.

im running 15s atm. ive got 4x100 vauxhall fit alloys on wobbly bolts with a 38 offset running a 195/45/15. all i get is a slight rub on the passenger rear on the inside of the arch. got 3mm spacers coming at weekend to sort that though.

also the 299 deal wont be for you. that will be with 195/50 tyres. as you need 45's expect an extra 50 quid or so

My car came fitted with these tyres you mentioned, are they that good?
Since their rain tyres and we only get rain during 4 maybe 5 months a year, (but nothing compared to your weather in the UK) and we get Really HOT weather in the summer...

So i didn´t thinck the Uniroyal rainsports would be the better choice... so i needed to change the front two and put in Conti Sport Contact 2´s (same size as uniroyals)...
You guys thinck i should get the uniroyals back on when i get a chance or are they only that good in areas with alot of rain??

I think they're simply great tyres (and great value for money, too -- one of those little known secrets). You might expect wear to be fairly high in somewhere as warm as Madeira, but I doubt they'd get hot enough to chunk up or so soft they'd cause slides. Uniroyal are actually a part of Conti, so I'd expect compounds, if not tread pattern, to be pretty similar.;)

These tyre debates are great fun

I personally have forund the Conti-Sports 185/50/14 the best all round tyre for me so far. They have great grip in the dry and are predicable if you are pushing hard, Plus in the wet they are brilliant especially under braking.

I found they are much lighter on the steering compared to the Pirrelli's i was using before too (good to know if you don't have power steering (y) )

The only down side is they are about the most expensive road tyres in that size

It would be interesting to do a back to back with the Uniroyals, but then, on 5.5J Contis are pretty much the choice, no 185/50/14 in Rainsports!

195/45/14s would fit nicely on a 5.5J wheel right? i have had a look around and Toyo recommend a 6J wheel + but i have 5.5Js and know of some cheap 195/45s so would they be OK/Suitable?
Thanks
Craig
