Anyone know why i can smell petrol in my car???????

It starts when my engine has warmed up, and even does it when i havn't filled up in a couple of days so itsnot that, and also i don't carry petrol around with me!!!!

Im afraid petrol fumes and fags may not be a good combination! BOOM!

you have a petrol leak
seriously you dont even say if its the front/rear or cabin so its kinda hard to diagnose

oh sorry its inside when im driving, and i put it in the gargage tonight and left it and then came back to it later an could smell petrol in the garage, but can see any leakage.

well if you dont see it underneath and its strong in the cabin then i would look under the bonnet 1st.
remove the air filter housing and inspect the 2 fuel lines. make careful inspection of the 2 flexi pipes including giving them a tweak as they can leak form fine cracks

oky dky, ill have a look now while im waiting for my filter to dry after a clean, (good timing really) cheers custard!

Know it sounds obvious to check & I'm sure U will have already, but..

Also be careful that your petrol cap is sealing properly - on my old Cinq' I absolutely cra%*ed myself when I got an overpowering petrol smell then discovered it had not been sealing properly when I locked it!!!

have you checked your fuel tank it might be starting to corrode at the seem. i have the same problem with my car you can smell petrol along time before it starts leaking and with the petrol tank being under the rear seat can smell quite strong in the cabin.

Hi guys,
This sounds a bit familiar with my '98 Cinq. It smells of petrol when i open the drivers side window (which as you can imagine is quite annoying as i can't get any fresh air). It's only 'smell-able' when i have the window open, it's not coming into the cabin, only when window is open. The seal on the petrol cap is ok, I have already checked that. It's recently had a service and MOT and the garage checked for petrol leeks so am I just worrying about nothing?

no you are not worrying about nothing as the smell indicates it has a leak.
you need to get under and try and locate the leak
