Ok, when it rains, my car leaks. Its awful. Smelly too.

I dunno where its comin from. When I get it, its the drivers side thats wet. Mostly the carpets.. The seats are damp, but I guess its soaking through. Where could it be coming from?

I have noticed the doors dont fit flush agains the body.. Could that be it? If so, how can I fix it?

This is my first car and needs some TLC, which I really wanna do! I've afallen in love :p

Any takers?

Thankyou

Chris.

Variety of things it could be;

Sunroof? Check seals are truly sealed and roof drains are clean and free from debris

Had your windscreen replaced recently? May not have been sealed properly get it resealed or get a new screen.

Windows Closed Properly? Close them.

Door seals? Might be leaking from the door seals, check seals.

Ariel on roof mounted at front? Might be leaking through this then into the rook then onto you seats and floor. Check ariel is sealed.

Alittle worrying when you say the doors don't close properly.
Have you checked the car for accident damage.
Check all welded areas, floor to see if it has been bent up, check behind the carpets for welding. does the car drive strait, does it ware tryers out funny, check the gapsfrom wheels to car body to see if there all the same...

Take carpets up? Can I just check the underneath? So much easier than pullin them up!!!

I never thought of accident damage 2bh.. Thank you for that! worried now tho!

I guessed it was just wear on the doors.. :/ But like I said, Im a niave new driveer! (n)

Trancendental, Thank you for your advice, theres 2 that it could possibly be.. I'll check them! thank you :)

Any more ideas?

If you bought the car from a dealership / car trader take it back immediately and demand they rectify the problem. If they can't you have a case to reject the car. If it was a private sale then it is buyer beware and there is little you can do.

If it has a sunroof that would be my bet that the sunroof drainage is blocked or the seal on the sunroof needs reseating.

if you have a sunroof it'll be that, it always is.

a lot of black putty around the sunroof chassis fixed mine, after many attempts and fustrating days.

No, theres no sunroof. It was a private sale.. So eep!!

erm.. Its not just the tops.. YOu can push the door back against the rest of the body and it fits just fine, which is why I dont think its accident damage.. Unless I'm mistaken. They seem to fit the body nicely when they are pushed in.

centaur, I hope so too!!

Would be a shame if it was accident damaged.. Other than the doors and the worn thrust bearing, its a really nice car!:(

*Crosses fingers*

Thank you all for the replies :)

Just one more addition.. Doors closing aside, could it just need new..WAit... Mind block.... That black stuff that goes around the doors....... :/ Forgotten the name of the stuff!!!!

my mates car leaks water in through where the arieal is, is the arial at the front/back of the car ? water goes over the centre console and on the seats, does the roof look ok from inside the car ?

The arial is at the front of the car, and the ceiling looks fine.. No signs of water coming through. THing is, the seats dont get wet.. Just the carpet on the drivers side. Im gonna check the engine bay and behind that divider that separates the engine from the wiper motor...

Ill let you know the outcome!! :D

Thanky ou for your help.

please excuse the bad typing.. my index finger is taped up (y)

You can usually adjust the striker plate (the latch bit that the door lock clicks onto )so the door is a bit tighter to the seals.
Another thing to check is drain from the heater airbox, they can get bunged up with dead leaves. Leaks can be pigs to find, somtimes you need a watering can and a friend I mean we all need friends but inside the car :) oh you know what I mean

Hah! Yeah! Me and the father adjusted that on the drivers side.. Its closer to the body now.

He was sat inside and I hosed the car. We found there was a fault in the seal where the lock was, and it was seeping through there. Bit of sealant around the seal.. We'll see what happens!!

Ill check the heater airbox.. If!! You tell me where it is!

Thank you for the reply :D
(y)

The heater airbox is below the inlet grille just in front of the windscreen. If you pour some water in there it should come flooding out underneath the car within seconds, diffucult to say more as you don't say what car you have but obviusly the drain will be somewhere in front of the firewall.

oooh!!! I see! Well its not that.. Me and my dad chucked water all over the windsceen and down there! No water came through, and the soundproofing was bone dry, so its not coming through from the fron

*Phew!* No electrical problems looming :D

And, So I didnt! I usually take every oppertunity to show off:p

Its a 95 Cinquecento 1.1 sporting :)

I love it :p
