Hi

I bought my 2007 1.2 Panda earlier this year and until recently it has being running fine.

It has started to make a high-pitched squeaking noise while cruising, the noise appears to marry up to car's speed and strangely the noise stops when turning either way.

The noise doesn't appear until the afternoon though; my morning commute is squeak-free.

A quick visit to the garage wasn't able to diagnose it, although they suggested it could be the gearbox, which would cost more to even fix than the car is worth...

Just wondering if anyone else has had a similar issue....

Absolutely a sticking brake.

Garage that suggested gearbox is one to avoid.

Panda pad carriers gently corrode, causing the pads to stick and rub gently on the discs. It all flexes a little on turns, which is why the noise changes.

Annually, hook the pads out, scrub the carriers with a wire brush, or a dremel if not wishing to work too hard, but don't take off too much material. Reassemble with a little smear of copper grease or ceratec.

Make an entry into next year's diary to do it all again.

This is not unique to Panda. It has affected disc braked cars since discs were first fitted. Some are more susceptible than others. Any garage that does not look at or suggest this first needs avoiding.
