Hello, I own a Fiat Punto Evo sporting 1.4turno multiaor. Today i went to grab some more oil, 5w-40 fully synthetic. However Halfords didn’t have any at the time, so they offered me 0w-40. I was curious because it’s a lot thinner. But the man looked through my owners manual, n told me that the 0w-40 will do just fine. Is the Halfords man correct?

Okay thank you

Hi,
The original specified oil for your car is 5W-40 to ACEA C3 specification. Page 271 of the 09/11 owners manual:
https://www.fiatforum.com/downloads.php?do=download&downloadid=309
says
"For petrol versions with Multi Air system, the use of lubricants with features below ACEA C3 and SAE grade other than 5W-40 could cause damage to the engine, not covered by the warranty."
I know that for some TA's (non-turbo?) Fiat changed from 5W-40 to 0W-40 see

But the thinner 0W oil may not suit the turbo. To be safe I'd stick with the 5W-40 fully synthetic of quality brand.

Okay great thanks for reply. I’ll do a oil change ASAP then.

I went to the Halfords auto centre, the bloke in their agreed that the 0w-40 shouldn’t be in the car. He said he’ll drain the car tomorrow and if provide the correct oil. I went to the Halfords retail store and they started saying the I can put 0w -40 in or 5w-40, dependant all my mileage. I ignored them and got some Castrol 5w-40. £36 it cost [emoji33]

Don't forget to change the MultiAir filter every ~30.000mls too!

Synthetic oils are know to have very good lubricating properties compared to mineral oil. Also, they last longer.
