I would have liked to do the job by removing the drain plug but the last person to have changed the oil has rounded out the hole on the sump plug, so can not remove it the conventional way so thought pump was the way to go, looks like a trip to the garage. Why not just take the drain plug out?
Extracting the oil from the dipstick hole is likely to leave some behind. Any crap sitting in the oil will be left behind too.
Removing the plug gets it all out, so the new oil is all new.
Make sure the old oil gets taken to your local waste disposal site. Don't put it into a drain, or onto the garden.
