I didnt quite believe this would work when my dad told me but his years of experience is not one to knock. I had an 1994 Peugeot 405 and the engine was dirty but not rotten, I used this method and after a few months I was getting asked if it was a new engine.

Items To Purchase

Autoglym: Engine & Machine Cleaner
Autoglym: Vinyl & Rubber Care

Firstly wash off the engine and bay with a hose and hot soapy water, Washing up liguid is better for eating the grease off. (Advised not to use on exterior paintwork)

Wait for the engine to dry (This can be done later as after a while you wont need to do the above) Also the engine must be cold.

Spray the autoglym Engine & Machine Cleaner all over the engine and bay, making sure you get it into any greasy/oil'y parts and leave for 10 - 20 minutes.

Wash of clean with a hose (Just water)

While the engine is still wet spray all over with the autoglym Vinyl & Rubber Care, this should go white in colour. Shut the bonnet and your done.

If you havnt done this before do it once every 2weeks for 2 - 3 months depending on engine state and then once every 1 - 2 months. Your plastics and rubbers will be shiny black and everything else grease free.

Unfortunatly I never thought about it but then thats me :S Im going to start doing it on my stilo now and ill make sure i get some images for ya.

Be very very careful splashing water abround the engine bay of any car, let alone a Fiat. We know what dodgy Italian electrics are like....

Same here Dave, done it on both the Capri and the Punto and had no probs (well, I flooded the fusebox in the Capri and had all sorts of electrical gremlins, but thats my stupid fault for not covering it   ). I cover the fuel injection unit/carb, ECU, ignition coil and alternator with plastic bags and duct tape first, then spray some degreaser on the engine, and blast all the filth off with the jetwesh. :)
