Cleaning alloys

i use normal car soap and water on mine, i brought a wheel cleaning brush from homebase for £2.99 , best purchase i have ever made, it makes cleaning the wheels a doddle

to get them to shine and also to try and stop brake dust build up i then polish them with normal car polish

I use Autoglym Clean Wheels, comes as a spray. Work my way round the car spraying then using an Autoglym cloth remove the spray/dirt, comes up really nice.

Liked the tip earlier about polish/waxing, I'll have to do that once I get alloys.

i heard that wonder wheels eventually attacks the alloy of the wheel, making them very brittle.

I use some stuff i got off the market. Works a treat

Sure does. I will never use Wonder Wheels again as it has totally buggered my alloys. I will have to get them refurbished soon as they have gone a horrible yellow colour and the laquer is pitted/scratched. :(

I use Mer on them now but the damage is done.

i heard about this problem with wonder wheels. It gives a nice shine and looks clean but can cause long term damage.
I have use Autoglym clean wheels and thats more for getting off bad ground in dirt rather than a general cleaner. Its really strong stuff, have a whiff next time you in halfrauds, ur eyes water hehe

You should see some of the industrial stuff designed fo truck wheels...that have never been cleaned. Its supposed to be put on and washed off immediately, we put some on a windscreen over night and it ate into it very nicely. ;)

P.S. It was a broken one out back not a customers.

cheers for the suggestions, will give em a try, well except for wonder wheel!

I normally just give them a quick going over with the sponge, but it still leaves loadsa crap on them.

There just the standard 13"sei sporting ones, there so fiddly to clean!

i use turtle wax extreme wheel cleaner, which works a treat. then i use the wax for wheels in the same brand to stop brake dust sticking. it makes them shine like beuties.

I've heard oven cleaner works well... Wouldn't like to try it mind...

i ran out once and used engine degreaser from halfords in stead it worked really well just went over it with a soft bristled dustpan brush (long bristles) (that stuff is well cheap)
