Hi all, I have purchased a set of wheels with painted centres and chrome lip. I was wondering if anyone knows of any good products to protect the wheels? My concern is marking/staining/damaging the chrome. Cheers

Clean the wheels with warm/hot water and car shampoo, followed by a good wheel sealant such as:-

Planet Polish Wheel Seal & Shine
Finish Kare 1000P Hi-Temp Sealant
Blackfire All Metal Sealant

If you must use a wheel cleaner ie, stubborn brake dust, Make sure its a non acidic product such as Autoglym Custom Wheel Cleaner or Autosmart Smart Wheels (Trade product).

Just try to avoid harsh chemical wheel cleaners. Preferably just car shampoo but if the grime isn't budging you can get milder wheel cleaners like Valet Pro Bilberry wheel cleaner which will work.

I personally use chemical guys wheel guard to protect my wheels, or optiseal if I'm feeling lazy.

When i asked on detailing world about if it the paintwork sealant was okay to use
They said yes

basically ANY protection is better then no protection, but some sealants dont like heat (from brakes) and as a result ""burn"" or ""disable"" the wax

hence why a higher temperature sealant is advised

Ziggy

Yes, they're very similar products to paint sealants, but dedicated wheel sealants will withstand heat a lot better.

Then there's products like Collinite and FK1000P which are technically for paintwork but will withstand heat very well.
