Does PowerBoost De-Coke Cleaner Spray really work? MPG, BHP, etc increase?

Basically after reading up on other things, This came into view which I have read into a little...
Having word of some positive reviews from big magazines such as Max Power, Fast Car, and some others... is this a real product that should be thought of and used widely, or the complete opposite as a scam product that really wastes your money and time for not working?

It's basically a Carb Cleaner, talking of spraying into your air intake for up to 8 minutes. Any users on FF with this?

http://www.ecotek.eu/PowerBoost.htm

If FF can't show the website, it's searchable through google as "EcoTek Powerboost

Lots of good reviews from folk who would be quick to call it a scam if it was.......

Good for older engines that need a decoke - the guy who owns the company is a pretty decent bloke.

I'd say you have little to lose if you're running an old, tired motor that has covered a few miles......

A common method of decoking a engine is to run the engine at a fast idle (1500ish) then with one of them water squirt bottles is squirt water into the intake. dont go mad... if the engine starts to bog stop squirting and wait for it to clear and smooth out.

Ive done it myself and know it works... anyone who has had a head gasket blow between a cylinder and water way will know how clean combustion chambers come up after its been self steam cleaned with water

hi, i used it several months ago on my multipla jtd. a fair ammount of black smoke came out, didnt notice any different running afterwards, like you, had heard it was good. so 6 months later, i was advised my turbo vanes were coked up & got innotech turbo cleaner, to clean turbo vane machanism. the fault wasnt the turbo at all, but very little black came out the turbo, so i suspect the powerboost had blasted it clean (it runs through turbo having sprayed it in AFTER the map sensor where the air hose goes to airfilter.
i would say that because of this it does work.

They reckon those parts are before and after shots - I reckon they have just put new parts there. The top cylinder head shows water deposits, I doubt anything added to the pots will also clean the water channels.

There's been loads of products on the market over the years, all reportedly doing the same thing & most of them tending to be a very combustable fluid with a few additives - designed to produce a hotter, more intense/fierce burn which will make your engine race a bit more - which will blow out the cobwebs.
Any engine which is given a good blowout once in a while will keep clean

Of course, if you use this stuff then strip your engine & find deposits, they will simply say your engine isn't running properlyt & their product can only clean once, whilst in use, it cannot continue to protect.

I believe you may get similar results with bp ultimate or the new one from shell - both designed to give you a bit more from the engine for the same amount of fuel.

the clean head is not even the same head. unless this stuff also makes your valves larger.

used valves will never come up clean even after time on the wire wheel. they are discoloured by the heat.

the pistons would never get cleaned past the rings! them photos of the clean pistons look like stock photos and the dirty pistons look like they have been found on google images and most likely uploads from people showing wear or damage

You'll probably find that stuff was being sold last year as poundland hairspray
As I said, that sort of stuff has been around for many years - in fact, you might find it is the same old stuff that has simply been rebranded for the modern motorist.
What annoys me about many motoring magazines and programmes is that the people putting their names to this stuff tend to know little about cars.
You can't beat the good, old-fashioned knowledge of a proper mechanic. He's the guy up to his elbows in oil from dismantling engines all day long, not the one sitting behind a desk all day or taking the odd new car out for a test drive on a disused airfiled.

Makes me laugh when you see Clarkson all hunched up in a supercar. He's chucking it around an airstrip & saying how wonderful the handling is or how responsive the throttle is - yes Jeremy, now try driving it on a real road for a few hours and see how you feel then as you struggle to get out.

Re: Does PowerBoost De-Coke Cleaner Spray really work? MPG, BHP, etc increase?

Some interesting comments here thanks

Looks like it is a product worth considering against the other types out there. You need to take a "common sense" approach to the advertising ofcourse. We are all right about the advert falsely detailing items that are cleaned and looking like new. Ecotek PowerBoost has been checked up with the Advertising Standards Authority as shown below, due to their "over the top" advertising claims, and were told to remove such claims as "Increased top speed" etc. See the below hyperlink if you want to read into that more :
http://www.asa.org.uk/ASA-action/Adj.../CS_40177.aspx
But at the end of the day, it is a product designed to maintaining an engine, alongside it's other competitors. Taking the time to attempt and maintain your engine will always be better than not attempting to maintain it at all

It must be worth looking into ay
