I've finally got my hands on my first Grande Punto and I'm thoroughly enjoying it so far. But, I've noticed a few subtle scratches on the driver's side front panel. Nothing deep, just a few white marks.

Before I go ahead and use T-Cut Scratch Remover I just wanted to make sure that it is the best thing to use. I'd happily apply it to my old banger, but I'm concerned it might be too harsh for the Punto?

If not T-Cut, what else should I consider?

It will be fine. If you want a very mild version to try first, use tooth-paste. If car has a clear top coat it's much thicker than the paint coat so polish away.

Have the scratches have gone through the clear coat and the paint to the grey/white primer though? That might need a paint touch-up stick. If so a toothpick makes a finer brush than the one in the bottle.

If scratches have just gone through the clear-coat, an appplication of that and a polish out should be simple. See YouTube for 1000 vids with advice.

I don't think the scratches are that serious really. You can't feel them if you rub your finger over them.

I'll be sure to give the car a thorough wash before applying and then wax it down after I've finished.

Right, back after a spot of dabbling with T-Cut for the first time ever.

Applied it a couple of times and using Turtle Wax after each application, and er, it's made no noticeable difference.

How much elbow-grease should I be giving it? I didn't want to go too over the top and end up regretting it.

Tcut wont damage your paint, and you will have to spend a while breaking it down. Better to apply once and then wax it. If you apply tcut then wax then Tcut again you are just stripping off the previous coat of wax.

I'd suggest you use 3M Finesse-It Polish, which can be used with a buffer or by hand using mutton cloth. If the scratches are really fine this should take them out without flatting them first.

Hate to ask the obvious but.........

You are using TCut Scratch remover not Colour resorter

For deep cuts I build with paint, then rub with fine grit wet & dry before finishing with TCut scratch remover.
Smear a reasonable amount onto the paint and then rub in firmly with a slightly damp cloth I find brings the best results.

The colour restorer won't touch scratches, it's only removing oxidation products from the paint surface.

Apologies in advance if you're using the rubbing compound already.

t cut worked fine for me. i put serious amounts of elbow grease into it and it hasnt affected the paintwork at all. at the end of the day it depends how deep the scratches are. if they arent really noticable then t cut should work fine, you may just need to put your back into it.
