the best way to keep paint clean is to work at it clean buff and wax it and iff it starts to look a little faded give abit of t-cut ago.
no magic secrets just hard work

:ROFLMAO: we back in 1990  sorry but using t-cut on modern clear coated paint is a no no

I bought Farecla G3 and G10 for use on my mini when I repainted it. I recently had to use the G10 on my Stilo to lift millions of paint dots from where a thick neighbough sprayed his fence on a windy day.

You not heard of Clay?

I'm currently using Meguiars NXT generation spray wax. Its £8.99 from Halfords of all places. Bargain price, goes on easily, buffs up beautifully and its so easy to both apply and buff you'll wonder why you don't always wax your car. :D

wouldn't call it a wax more of a doped Quick detailer it lasts 2-3 washes if your lucky

I also use Turtle Wax Nanotech alloy wheel polish.... always thought alloy wheel polish was pointless until I tried it! My newly refurbished wheels will be polished this way forever as it makes lifting brake dust a doddle and the wheels look fantastic!

TBH i haven't used it any LSP on alloys is a bonus (y)

I used to always shammy my car too, but more recently i've been using a large turtle Wax silicone blade to get the water off the car, seems to work a treat and it certainly never scratched the car.

FFS BIN THE BLADE you get one bit of grit trapped under the blade it will Muller your paintwork invest in a decent drying towel (y)

Final tip... have plenty of decent polishing cloths. personally I buy the massive 60 pack of cotton terry clothes you get in places like Costco and use them. That way if you drop one while polishing you just get another out the pack.... I also boil wash the clothes after use!

I use 1 cloth to apply polish to bodywork.
1 or 2 to buff paint.
1 for black bumper trim/mirrors etc.
1 to apply wax to wheels
1 to polish wheels.

So potentially 6 polishing cloths if I don't drop any... always pays to have too many rather than too few.
cant beat foam or "terry" applicator pads depending on what you are doing

Silicone blade?! Just no. They are much wore than leathering the car. You want to use a drying towel.

Using a decent wax means you only have to put wax on once every few months. It shouldnt need doing every few weeks and get a load of microfibre towels to polish and buff off.

:stupid:

I take it nobody on here washes their car properly? I mean my car isn't clean until the dirt is off, and using a drying cloth will certainly smear an dirt around just as bad as a blade lol.

I agree that the NXT wax is an easy on wax, but for quick results that do last reasonably well its worth a go. By all means use a high content wax but personally I wouldn't use one and then not polish my car for months lol.

Oh dear

By the way I'm not just trying to wind folk up.... seriously there isn't just 1 right way of washing a car! Each to their own I say, if you've got a technique that gives great results then share it!

I see personal preference is not to use a blade, well I've only used mine 3 times, and seeing as I never put it on the ground and I always wash my car thoroughly then I don't see how I'd trap dirt or grit! In the same vein its just as easy to get a bit of grit stuck on a shammy or a drying towel.

As for the comment about the polish i've used, well i've used all kinda over the years and the NXT has given some of the best results i've seen. And I also see its rated on one of the detailing sales sites touted on here.

I think its beading quality speaks for itself!

No point in bad mouthing something you've never tried. In 17 years of car ownership I've never scratched a car whilst washing or polishing! The only scratches on my car are there due to inconsiderate fools in shopping centre car parks.

I've noticed everyone seems to think the beading should be completely uniform! But I disagree, isn't the water supposed to run off the car? Which is exactly whats happening in my pic! The water is beading, running together and running off the car! Basically whats its designed to do!

I'm happy for someone who knows more about the dynamics of H2O to correct me though!

That'll explain why the water was running off my car then, I've got a Stilo, it doesn't have a single flat panel! :) They all have some sort of angle or curve! Pic was of the roof which has a slight curve, and the car was parked on my sloped drive! So its safe to assume my beading pic was fine then.
