Was informed today that my car is at status 50 so hopefully it will be mine within the next 2 weeks - HOOORAAAAH!!

I was looking at the bumf on G-3 GLASSCOAT - VERY impressive! The dealer said if I'd like it done it would obviously be best to do it when car arrives and is in pristine condition. Its £199, sounds great and has a 5 year guarantee but has anyone tried it?

There's an offer on of the G-3 process plus GAP insurance for £299 total - I'm tempted but wonder if it's worth it so would appreciate your views!

Thanks - and even with the GAP insurance in the price,do you think £299 is too much?
 
Thesedealer applied products are total rubbish, they never do what they claim.

I assumed the 5 year guarantee with G3 would give protection if it didn't work but who is the guarantee be with - the dealer who puts the stuff on, or G3 itself?
 
As Mark said, it's pointless. For a start the car will not be 'pristine' when they apply it, if Fiat standards are anything to go by. 2nd of all, it will only do exactly the same job as a decent wax will, and with a wax you can apply it yourself for much cheaper and then keep the car looking pristine by waxing it to remove contaminants every few months.

I think I was hoping to save myself the chore of waxing as it's not a thing I do if I can help it! More importantly -I'm not very good at it.

You mention Fiat standards being not too hot so my initial check on the paintwork will need to be rigorous in the extreme - but what if I'm blinded by 500 l-u-r-v-e:worship:the minute I lay eyes on him!?

If you look at that certificate with the application the dealer gives you, you have to forver wash the car using there product, be able to prove it and remove all heavy contaminents within 2 hours??

Research the cost of GAP insurance via the internet / martins money saving and see if its a good deal.

I occasionally wash (my current car) by hand, very occasionally wax it, but usually just go to the normal car wash.:shakehead: Having never had a brand new car before I thought I'd make an effort to keep that showroom appearance!

But yeah it all sounds a bit onerous espec. the "be able to prove it" bit and do stuff within 2 hours!
 
Waste of money.

Get a decent detailer to do you a Zaino protection detail, for a 500 I charge about £120, and for that I also correct any minor paint blemishes.

I had T500 Pop Autoglym Lifeshined inside and out, the black paint seems to resist dirt and stays cleaner a lot longer than before.........and the shine when its clean is fantastic
The interior stuff really works as I got melted chocolate on the passenger seat, It just wiped off with damp cloth
And I got a huge bag of Autoglym producs for future use all for £120 (y)

If you want to maintain the showroom appearance you will have to wash it using a decent soft washmitt, 2 buckets and a good shampoo. Then it will need to be clayed to remove transportation contaminants and waxed for protection. Mine is done every 3 months to remove road tar, sap, traffic grime etc. and then a layer of wax is applied.

When I took delivery it was fairly free of scratches and swirls, so I simply washed and clayed it and then applied a layer of wax. Depending on how good your valeters are, you might need to polish it. Personally, I'd ask them not to wash or clean it at all during the inspection so you can do it yourself to maintain the paint properly.

You could always try using a wash and wax product if you don't want to spend a long time waxing? I love waxing myself, my car currently has a layer of Dodo Juice Light Fantastic on it followed by a layer of Supernatural to give a really good layer of protection and a noticable difference to the finish too. Washing it is now a breeze!

I need to get around to claying my car and giving it a coat of wax. I've been naughty and have just been washing it with the obligatory lambswool mit and some decent shampoo.
 
Mine will also be first new car I have ever owned so expect I will be bit precious about it! What is best way to find a good valeter? Might be a stupid question but not something I have had to seek before and don't want to end up going to someone who hasn't a clue.

Did a google and LOTS come up. Have a couple of questions if you don't mind.

1. What is best way to find out if someone is reputable rather than picking just anyone? A lot of companies advertising seem to be franchises.

2. Is it a good idea to get this done pretty soon after taking delivery of my new car and how often would you think it should be done?
