Can anyone help me solve my partner's problem with a mark 1 punto?
It is a 1996 (p) 1.2 60s

The car starts ok but once it gets quite warm the tickover flutters up and down, about once per second. Sometimes it also starts to race quite high, again only once it is quite warm, a quick prod on the throttle seems to bring it back down again. When driving it seems fine, it is only when the clutch is in, or if it is in neutral that it has this irregular tickover and only when well warmed up. It's quite and old car and we don't want to spend a a chunk of money on it taking it to a garage and so was hoping that someone could point me in the right direction for a bit of DIY action! I'm quite handy with a tool kit but need some advice as to where to start looking and what to try?
