Hi, to my surprise the threshold if it called that in English is rusted all the way througe on both sides. I cant find any spare part except fiat original which is very expensive 400 euro per side. Therefore not an option on my 14 year old Bravo 1,9 multijet.

Has anyone any thoughts on where I can find new treshold or if I can repair it? so the car witch runs great can last a couple of years more. Woth be very glad for any sugestions:)

By the way what has happend to the fiat forum android app? cant find/use it anymore.

Hi

You might be referring to the Top of the sill

As you open a foor ..and climb in 'over the threshold'

It is the flat painted metal ?

Thanks for the reply. It is the long metal part that goes under the door and that goes a bit under the car. Where you normaly put a jack. I didn't see any corsion in nowember so the rust holes came fast. I will try to post a photo of the location.

Yes.. we term that the sill :)

Your 'threshold' phrase we use on a HOUSE door.. but not on a car ..

Weird eh..!!

He he OK here in Sweden we call them threshold on the car and the same on a house door? but OK from now when I write in English I will call them sills? so is it possible to find new sills that isn't the expensive original from Fiat? Or maybe just cut out the bad parts and weld something over, paint that and be happy and hope it passes the test referd to as MOT in English I belive?

When cars used to rust quickly, there were many companies making repair panels, some good, others not so good.
With cars now being well rustproofed from new, rust strikes much later in a car's life, so the demand for repair panels is low. Most of the aftermarket panel manufacturers now concentrate on crash panels.
I've had a look at Veng, Klokkerholm and Van Wezel, but it appears that none of them have listed the sills for your car.

Three options.
1. Have a skilled car repairer make up patch panels to replace the rusted areas, if localised repairs are adequate.
2. Find a skilled car metal fabricator who can shape some new panels form flat sheet to weld in.
3. See if another car has similar shaped panels that might be adjusted to fit.

In the UK, such people exist. Hopefully there will be some near you.

Or maybe find a place with a scrap bravo and have them angle grind through the bodyshell..

So you have a Fullsize repair panel :)

I appreciate most Swedish cars may have some corrosion.. but yours does sound excessive

In the UK The Grande and Bravo seem to survive OK

Thanks for the reply PB. I think there was an Opel hatch back that was quite similar to the Bravo and maybe those sills would fit, with a litle modification. I also called a guy with a machine shop today and he said if i cut out the rust holes he will veld it togheter with some metal he got. This will not look good, but its probably the cheapest :)

There is not many Bravos in Sweden, and I have checked with the scrapyards and there isnt anything to retrive from them, according to sills. I cant belive this happend so fast. Sure this car have had its problems, but I liked the car anyway. Its bean as a family member almost, we had this Bravo almost since new, and I would want it going fore a little while more. (y) I will try with some welding and see how it goes :)
