Have power steering checked error

Hello everyone, after owning my 1.9D 16V Bravo for half a year I finally started encountering some electrical problems with it. It all started when one morning I tried starting my car. As i turned the ignition on everything seemed fine, however as i tried starting the motor everything immedeately died and showed no signs of life. I opened my hood and it turned out to be a loose battery connector (positive side). I tightened it down and the car started normally, however it started throwing errors like, that ASR is disabled and the hill holder is inactive. However the red steering light was also on and it said Have Power Steering checked. And now the wheel is really hard to turn. Can someone point me to the right direction for eliminating this problem? Thank You.

Re: Have power steering checked error

I have checked the battery and its a healthy 12.6V after staying all night. And when the engine is running the alternator is working as the voltage is around 14.4V

Is this one too old for a code reader? If not try that or MES too see if thereís any pointers. Battery sounds ok ish but thatís not a great voltage with no load so Iíd start there.

Re: Have power steering checked error

Hi, thanks for Your reply. It appears the battery was faulty as it could not hold a load. So I got a brand new battery, however the problem didnt dissapear. I tried doing the eps calibration twice(turning the steering wheel lock to lock), but it didnt help. I tried reading the codes, but I didnt get anything useful

If you didn't use Multiecuscan using the relevant cable then I would. A generic reader possibly won't get codes from the steering ecu.

Re: Have power steering checked error

My guess would be the fact the positive was off is the problem. When you disconnect the battery you do neg terminal first for a reason. Did you notice any sparks or a smell? Itís possible that something shorted and damaged your power steering, which is an electrical system in the bravo. This is just a guess from an unqualified random though, keep that in mind
