Removing the Battery - Fiat Bravo

Hello Everyone

After six-seven years, the battery in my Fiat Bravo 1.9 Diesel has finally slumped so I thought I would get it replaced. I got a new battery online, removed the leads and undone the securing strap, but im' having difficulty physically removing the battery from the compartment.

There is this big bar/brace that seems part of the internal structure of the car which prevents me from pulling the battery directly up, but I'm not sure how to remove it and my father (previous owner of the car) said he managed to get the battery in/out before without removing it, although I'm not sure how.

Any advice that people can lend me?

Not a bravo owner.. but sometimes its possible to lift up one end .. to get out of awkward spots.

No cables you can wrestle out of the way.

@PANDANUT

@gadge may have done this task on theirs

Never done one on my bravo yet but the brace you mention is it the diagnal one that goes from near the head light to near the suspension strut top? If it is I'm sure it can be removed.

Hopefully the image works.

I've moved what cables, like the leads, out the way as best I can and I've even removed the top case from the Fuse and relays box to no avail.

Hi Gadge, thanks for your reply.

Yes, it is the diagonal one that comes across the front of the car. If you are saying that it can be removed, would you be able to tell me how to do that and, if able, what tools I might need?

On that bar you'll see five 13mm (I think?) bolts - three on the strut end and two on the headlight end. Remove these and the bar should come off

Just unscrew those bolts which hold that metal bar behind the front headlight. It would not be problem.

I changed the battery on mine. I think it was just a socket and ring spanner involved. I used jump leads to maintain the battery connection and lifted the new battery in and did not even have to re-code the radio. No adverse effects noted from removing and replacing the brace that supports the front panel.
