Hi all

Following on from my lack of performance issue (perception of loss of boost), I think I may be starting to get to the bottom of it.

Today when the car would coast then have power reapplied it would kick out a cloud of oil. Furious stripping down revealed mayo on the outlet of the oil separator to air inlet pre-turbo. No mayo anywhere else.

Separator was filled with a thin liquid. I suspect this is fuel, dragging through the vacuum lines into the inlet manifold from a failing fuel regulator (would explain the crappy power with occasional mule kick on hard acceleration).

I plan on removing the vacuum line from the regulator to check for a moist hose (all puns intended) tomorrow to confirm my theory, but would be interested if anyone has had this before?

And where do I get a replacement?

Craig

I wouldn't suspect the fuel regulator based on those symptoms.
Start with replacing the oil separator (especially if the car has over 60-80k miles).
It can cause an intermittent boost leak. it has 2 directional valves, if they start sticking you get boost leaks.

Replacing that oil separator should be part of basic maintenance.

I'd have a look at the spark plugs. when were they replaced? are they the right thing?

I've already replaced the oil separator with a brand new one

Does it smell like fuel? If it's petrol, surely your nose will confirm this immediately?

The fuel regulator doesn't go to the oil separator, it goes straight to the manifold. fuel from there won't go back through a good functioning oil separator (directional valves).
What you are seeing is condensation + oil... 100% normal especially on short trips.

A bad fuel pressure regulator will show up as crazy rich or lean long term fuel trims.
No need to take anything apart to see those. I use Torque for those...can't make out the adaptive and multiplicative MES parameters
