Hi Fiatforum!

First time poster here but I've been browsing the forums many times and now I finally decided to join this great community.

I recently bought a Fiat Bravo 2.0 Business Sport to replace my Grande Punto and I'm really happy with the car. But.. not so much with the navigation, which I found to be next to useless. I was expecting a small downgrade from google maps on my phone. But instead I was disappointed with the lack of touch screen, vague directions, outdated maps, no traffic information, etc. I actually got lost on my way home from the seller and had to resort to stopping and getting my phone to send me in the right direction. Also the multimedia part of the headunit is subpar.

So I've been looking at my options. Since I'm using an android phone, a headunit with android auto seemed a logical choice. However the user interface restrictions are way too strict. Kenwood, JVC, Pioneer, and other well known brands have some very expensive headunits but most of them use archaic resistive touchscreens and don't have my beloved google maps. Then I stumbled upon headunits which are running android and I'm very excited about the possibilities. Unfortunately it seems they are all made by chinese manufacturers with unknown/questionable track record. However since the price is accordingly I'm willing to give them a try. I'm considering a Xtrons TE706PL which should be fast enough to provide a snappy response. Does anybody have any experience with the Xtron brand? Or perhaps other suggestions worth considering?

And then, the technical part. I'd like to try and hook up the head unit myself. First I'll need to remove the stock unit, but how? All the guides that I found on this forum use flat keys but my headunit only has two holes next to the CD slot (see attached picture). Do I just push a pin in there or is there some tool/trick to it?

What else do I need? An iso harnass, steering wheel adapter and faceplate, or am I missing something? Should I get a complete stereo fitting kit such as Connects2 CTKFT07? And will the Xtrons ICE ACS/11-085 wire harness work? It mentions that it's for Fiat but not specifically the Bravo. And finally, since my car has a stock subwoofer I believe it has already an amp. Can I hook up the headunit to the stock amp or do I need to bypass it somehow?

Lots of questions for a first post but any help would be much appreciated :p

If I were you I'd try an android HU even if the manufacturer is from China.
I've got one of these and I'm very happy with it.

I just remove the original HU (it wasn't a satnav) and I kept the steering controls and gain access to my android phone, always updated maps, spotify, rear and front dvr camera and a lot of other utilities.

Yes I looked at the Erisin and the specs are very similar to the Xtrons unit. I prefer the clean look without the buttons though. So I made a decision and ordered the Xtrons together with the installation kit.

I'll just try to install it myself and if I don't manage I can alway pay for someone to do it professionally. Any hints on how to remove the old satnav would still be appreciated :)

Also i have a question is there any codes required if you swap existing Radio Unit (No Sat Nav) for a Android unit. I dont have the radio code or anything as i purchased my Bravo (Here in Malaysia) and owner had none of the codes ?

I purchased an Xtrons HU and love it, Xtrons seems to be a fairly decent brand.
I fitted it myself and it was a bit of a faff because of all the wires and adapters you need, especially if keeping steering wheel controls, and there is such little space behind the dash for it all.
I actually broke my first one but managed to return it and get a new one for free as the warranty sticker had already been broken and looked like a 2nd hand unit, so just did a few white lies

Unfortunately I can't remember where I purchased the wiring adapters from, but they were about £90

The HU with two holes needs two U shaped tools like

They are on ebay or local car shop.
At a pinch you can use 4 rods with a rounded end. This will release the latches but not grip the radio so you can pull it out, you will have to use the knobs to pull on.

Let's hope there's not a code required because I also don't have it! From what I understand it's an anti-theft feature which disables a headunit when power has been interrupted. My satnav doesn't seem to have this because I've already resorted to resetting the headunit by disconnecting the car battery. I'm guessing your radio will be similar. Apparently the Xtrons headunit also doesn't require a code because mine arrived yesterday and I was able to power it up on the kitchen table with a power supply just fine.

Great to hear you're happy with the unit! Gives me more confidence to go and try to install it. Right now I'm overwhelmed with all the cables and connectors. I do want to keep steering wheel controls so I bought a so-called 'FIAT Head Unit Replacement Interface' from connects2. It's supposedly plug & play but there's wires without connectors and plugs that don't seem to fit my headunit... Soooo I hope it will make more sense when I have a look at the wiring in the car :p

By the way, how is the readability in direct sunlight? I'm a little concerned that maximum brightness doesn't seem to be that bright

That's what I thought I needed at first! BUT my radio only has two holes, not four! And while driving home yesterday I had some sun shining in the car. I think I saw a hexagon shaped metallic part in the holes. So I'm gonna try an Allen key and see if I can unscrew 'something'.

Connects2 is where I got mine! Does make more sense when you can see it all together, make sure you get an ISO adapter as well

Max brightness isn't too bad, sometimes I feel like a bit brighter would be nice, be it's been fine 99% of the time

Hi,
The original radio does not need a code because it matches the body computer. You need the code to make a different Fiat radio work in the car. An after markt one does not need it. What you may find is that the milage display flashes with the radio removed. On mos cars this can be cured by doing a "proxi-alignment" using multiecuscan.

Well today I had a closer look at these mysterious holes and it turns out they don't have a hexagon shaped hole after all. There is a small vertical metal latch in them. But I have no clue if it should be pushed/pulled/turned. Any ideas?

Behold my awesome drawing skills;

Just use a screwdriver or something with the same diametre of the holes in the plastic and then push them. Afterwards you can pull the unit out of its hole.
