Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help or advise. My 2007 (57 plate) 1.4 active Bravo with 58,000 miles. I was driving to work this morning and going up a hill. I accelerated and there was a bit of a pop and I lost some power. The engine management light started to flash. I pulled over as soon as I could, switched the engine off, checked under the bonnet and there was nothing visibly out of order. I started the car and the engine management light was off but the car was misfiring. I carried on driving and as I accelerated the engine management light came back on flashing. When I slowed down at traffic lights the engine management light went off but came back on when I accelerated back up to speed.

There is definitely a noticeable engine miss fire. The car is serviced every year and the timing belt was changed (by Fiat) at 25,000 miles.

It's good that it's consistent=> easy to troubleshoot and fix.

Start with the easy cheap things:
-read error codes.
-is the engine getting up to temp? thermostat working?
-check spark plugs.
-check coils....basically check for spark.
-MES graphs, accelerator position, throttle position, map pressure, rpm. gentle acceleration through 3-rd gear... should easily spot any sensor not reading correctly.
-check fuel pressure (need special tester)
...etc

Thank you very much for the fast response. Unfortunately I don't have a diagnostic tester, probably something I should invest in.

The engine is getting up to running temp ok and the thermostat is working.

I have a spare set of plugs so I will change them tonight and will check the coils at the same time.

Anything else I will probably need to go to a garage.

Hi!

I had this issue: Intermittent misfiring on another car (gasoline, not Fiat).
Turned out to be one ignition coil was going bad.
You should definitely read the error code and see what is says.

Misfire on warmed up engine can be a sign of more serious problems, e.g. head gasket failure (check for white smoke from exhaust) so it would be wise to check the car at a garage.
