Hi all,
"change engine oil" along with a flashing oil can, is showing on my dash display, but goes away after 1 minute of driving the car. The oil level is fine.

The oil+filter was changed about half a year ago, less than 5k miles.

Now, two questions:

Is this because the oil service light was not reset by the garage?

Would it be enough to have this reset? or does it actually need an oil change again? I've read that this apparently effects the DPF (if reset is not done).

thanks a lot!

just reset the engine service interval...

thanks for your reply, but... I dont think this resets the ECU computer? just the light in the dashboard?
at least thats what I can read in other threads, with other fiat models.

It is special counter for oil change interval on ECU and is different from service interval counter. Need tester to reset that oil counter.
You need to done this reset because dpf regeneration not work if oil change message is present.

ah, thanks for the explanation. So, the DPF wont clean itself, basically. Odd way of enginering, I must say. That a simple thing as not reseting the computer can damage the DPF.
No need to make an oil change again, I assume. I'll call a workshop or fiat dealer tomorrow, to get it reset.

There are several conditions for starting regeneration of DPF.
One of them is oil to be in ok status.
You dont need to change oil now but is good ideea to see how many km you was done from previos change. Then if you run machine into town the interval of oil change is arround 10000 - 11000 km. If you have long journeys outside of town the the interval can be 15000- 20000 km. Now you will substract from regular interval the number of km you already done and at the next oil change you will know to reset the oil counter.
After that the machine will tell you when you need to change the oil. That interval will be caiculated automativally by the machine whatever you run on town or outside of.

Ah, thank you for that detailed explanation, Sir. Actually, the last oil change was made 11000km and 6 months ago. The car is both driven shorter and longer distances. Dont think the local garage/mechanic who made the last oil change has any knowledge on how to reset this oil index. Paying Fiat to just reset it is probably about €50 - making an oil change and reset is about €140 (I would guess). Might as well make an oil change.

You should actually take it back to the garage that did the oil change and have them do it for free.

My advice is to buy the multiecuscan software and pay for license = 50 euro - google to find it. Then buy ELM327 adapter from ebay = few euro, and you will be able to make own diagnostic you need. I dont know if the free version of this software will let you to do oil reset.

As for oil I think is good to change it now with Selenia 5w30 to be sure everything is ok and reset the oil counter and the next change will be when the machine will ask you. Plus minus 500 Km in oil change dont matter.

thanks for all the advices! I have one of those ELM327 with bluetooth pairing laying somewhere (came with a 2nd hand car I bought).
The bravo is my parents car and they live far away from me. My dad took it to a Fiat dealer who said they would do it for free, but they didnt know how to reset it (n)
A local garage did it for 10 euros. Very nice of them.

Hopefully your parents will give the local garage their custtom in future. It is terrible that the Fiat dealer does not know about the oil degredation counter. 5-10 years ago when DPFs were new it was understandable (but not good) now its incompetent.
