Technical Engine failure - Need help

Hello guys,

Today, my Bravo 1.9 tjet150, after no previous warnings (the car was working like a charm), started jerking when I was accelerating.

After 5-10 secs I saw the EOBD/INJECTION SYSTEM FAILURE and the HILL HOLDER FAILURE lighting up. This jerk is heavy if I press the throttle and it does not allow the car to accelerate smothly.

I can hear a knocking sound once I release the clutch.

I will go to a mechanic on Monday but please, let me know what I should be prepared for.

I don't think you have too much to worry about. It certainly doesn't sound like catastrophic engine failure.

It may be a problem with the fuel/air mix to one cylinder - or the spark/misfire. Both of these things can cause the engine to 'jerk' and create a knock.

I would guess that the mechanic will diagnose the fault quite quickly.

Thank you for the reply. I went to the closest mechanic to my place , who is probably a scammer and he told me that the injector is bad (no further details given) and requesting 1000€ to open and fix it. I will go to another one tomorrow, who is specialized to Italic brands.

It could well be a broken injector, they do wear out.

98176 miles. I have purchased the car as used and did 3500 miles so far without issues. Is this price he asked for normal?

Missing smooth acceleration means limp mode On. Any errors from the computer? Did the rip off mechanic hooked it on the computer? How did he know it was faulty injector? And is it one or all four of them?
Injectors are easy tested on injector bench apparatus, and if they are good, no need to change all of them.

Could be anything, from a bad ground, a clogged fuel filter to bad injectors, bad high pressure pump..etc

Take to somebody that has a good idea of what they are doing.

I'm now waiting the second mechanic to check what happened.

If it's the injectors then you could just get someone to remove them (or remove them yourself) and get them refurbished, in the uk there is places that can refurbish them for £70 each witch isn't too bad considering injectors vary from 100-140 each

So finally I have an update.

The 3rd injector was found broken and they replaced it. However the mechanic did a full engine check and found that the ERG valves need to be cleaned. The whole procedure (cleaning, ERG deactivation, water pump replace, timing belt replace) will cost me around 350€.

Also, the clutch is completely damaged and the replacement will cost around 700€ minimum.

I have 2 questions:

- Are these prices fair?
- When I am on stop and the engine idle, the car is shaking. Is it because of the clutch or the engine?

People need to stop buying diesels, they are for trucks imo not daily driving

Prices do seem reasonable(keep in mind that the clutch is DMF so i assume that will also be included in the price).
You will probably find a bit cheaper... but not by much: you will need to search for appropriate parts and source them on your own... you will save about ~200GBP.
Both/either clutch or engine/bad injector will cause the shaking.
