Hi everyone,

I have recently passed my driving test and have been driving my car a lot more.

A few days after passing, I had a temperature light come up asking me to pull over and switch my engine off, after pulling over the light when off and I thought nothing off it.

Then it started happening more frequently but I had just thought it was a sensor of some sort playing up.

Today I went for a drive and as I pulled up to where I was going, I noticed steam coming out of the engine bay, so I stopped and then opened the bonnet and nothing looked odd.

The fan has been on a lot more lately and my heater in the car isn't working weirdly.

The only thing I can say is that it smelt like an inner tube (chemical plastic), so I drove 30 minutes back home and stayed below 2000RPM.

Does anyone know what this might be?

Hello.
The same car the same engine the same problem.
Started yesterday. Unfortunately I did hit a kerb, very hard - well it was either the kerb or body work on driver side - moron driver in Rover.

Just after the temp started rising.
Pulled over, checked damage - just the rims, nothing apparent underneath.
Coolant level - When the info to pull over and shut engine off came out level was .... empty retension bottle.
Loosened a cap while it was still hot - the coolant started woooooshing back into retension and temp dropped down IMMEDIATELY.

If I do drive the car lightly the temp would rise slowly. I been playing with clutch - engaged it, keep the car rolling and few times the temp needle just dropped back to normal to start lowly rising again.

Whats the problem?
Are there any components might got damaged when I rode the kerb?
It looks like a vacuum issue for me but I have got no clue where to look.
There is no coolant leek.

Checked the battery with two different testers, it is very good.

The cooland has been topped up week ago, engine cold.
