Ok so i have removed my egr to clean it and wow, how my engine was running at all is a miracle

I am planning on cleaning it all out and after lots of searches im planning on either blanking it off totally or fitting a blanking plate with the hole in it

Has anyone used any of these methods....any advice will be great

Did you take any pics for a guide

If your egr is knackered, get a full blanking plate and get the egr wiped from the computer. If it's OK, then use one with a hole in. This will let just enough gas through to fool the computer this doesn't need wiping from the computer

Thanks thats the info i was looking for... one last question though, my car has a dpf so will blanking the egr cause any issues?

Hi,
The EGR will have no direct effect on the DPF. They are different systems for different emissions.
I recommend fitting a restrictor/swirl plate with holes in it. This does two things, it makes the ECU open the EGR further and this reduces the chances of it sticking and it improves the mixing of the exhaust gas with the air.
This is an approved modification.
Disabling or completely blanking the EGR is illegal on a road car in the UK (and most countries where they are required) and while currently unlikely to be detected (there are rumors of a proper MOT emissions test in the future that will detect deletion) technically it could invalidate your insurance.

Don't think it illegal, removing the DPF, is illegal. They'd be no way of checking if you had a blanking plate, as they can't dismantle anything. They'd only fail MOT if your EML was little

Thanks guys.....im going to go with blanking with a hole and see how that goes ?

I have made a mistake though....i cleaned my throttle body not egr lol

Does anybody know where the egr valve is on 1.6 multijet 105hp....thanks

I did say it was unlikely to be detected, but deleting or disabling any emission control device makes the vehicle illegal to use on the road. Not getting caught for speeding does not make it legal. The law in the UK was tightened a few years ago to include any original equipment devices even it it was not needed to meet the emissions when the car was new. This has causeed issues for owners of more recent "classic" cars that had the catalyst removed years ago and now won't pass te MOT.

The part number for the "proper" 1.6 or 1.9 8V restrictor from Fiat is 55226183. The 1.9 16V one is larger and square. I fitted one to my Croma see https://www.fiatforum.com/miscellan...v-mjtd-egr-valve-restrictor-installation.html
The 1.6 restrictor is the same size and shape as the oval gasket on the 16V, part No.46773082. Note that the Fiat restrictor is self gasketing so you don't need gaskets or sealants. It is also a lot thinner than most of the 3rd party ones.

Thanks Robert...ill get one ordered and hopefully get it fitted this weekend

About 2-3 years ago, I was fed up with black smoke, dirty rearend, and black engine oil, so I decided to try the 3 hole restrictor gasket, without much effort at all.
After that, the EGR was blanked completely, and was deleted from the ECU as well.
No more smoking during accelerating, clean rear, superclean engine oil and a very smooth running 1,9-16V jtd as a result, even after about 250000mls....
No problems during (Dutch) MOT as well.
