Hi all, is it worth blanking off the egr valve? Are there any problems with doing so (except having to get the ecu remapped) and has anyone done it?

I've silenced my egr on cover plate, and it does not cause any problem at all light.benefit party was the fuel consumption decreased slightly. but the only bad side is that the car heats up slower.

this summer still managed machine off and put the new software (more diesel power )

Hi need help have Fiat 500 mulijet have trouble with egr have had engine remapped months ago now problem has come back was asked if egr was blanked when engine remapped don’t know if it was can’t get hold of garage who did this looking for a local place to get issue resolved can’t find anyone in Essex area

I am lost as to why anyone would want to do this. Its there for emissions reasons and is an MOT requirement in UK. I have had some trouble with mine, but after use of a spray cleaner and subsequent use of Diesel fuel additive on a regular basis it has not been a problem for 50K miles. The Car has now done 100K and is running fine. Like many others I wish they didn't fit these things, but feel its not ideal removing them. I did investigate the part price and found the dealers price to be the best and was quoted 0.8 hrs to fit it. For that you get the manufacturers guarantee too.

Glad to hear.

Try Wynns Diesel cleaner on a regular basis it worked for me I shot in each tank for a while settled my EGR. If you do use the cleaner only do tint squirts into the air flow at a time and let the engine recover. Over doing it with this stuff can cause engine damage. It seems to cause pre-detonation send the timing out and stops the engine dead. Something to be avoided at all costs!

I did clean my egr today, the car is a bravo 1,9 mjt 07 it has 250000 km on the clock. I thought I try it out since I seen all these videos on YouTube and that it could be clogged with sot. The car didn't run bad or anything like that before the clean up.

To my surprise when I got the egr of it was not mutch sot at all, it was almost clean and there was no need to do all that job.

How could this be, considering the mileage and age on my car, when other egr valve seams to clogg up and make all kinds of trouble mutch earlier?

Also note if you have a dpf removing the egr will increase the ammount of soot it collects as the egr is used to regulate the temps if the exhaust at low speeds changing the ammount of soot produced

There is an intermediate option - a restrictor plate. Certainly for the 1.9 8 & 16V models there is an official Fiat modification (see https://www.fiatforum.com/miscellan...v-mjtd-egr-valve-restrictor-installation.html for my guide on the 16V)
The restrictor is a plate with 1, 3 or 4 holes. There are various things and differing opinions on what it does. I think it has two main effects, it causes the system to open the valve more which helps stop it sticking (more spring force to close it) secondly the increased velocity through the plate causes turbulence and better mixing of the exhaust gas and inlet air.
Mine has been going for 4 years with no problems whatsoever. Note that in the UK (and most of europe) it is illegal to blank or otherwise disable the EGR and is an MOT failure if detected.
