Hello so Today our bravo started making a whistle/air sucking noise and black smoke, my thoughts says split intercooler or turbo to intercooler pipe? I have searched the Internet but can't find replacement parts.

There is no lack of power just when putting my foot down the nose comes when the car boosts. As cool as it sounds after a day of people looking at me when I put my foot down thinking they will get sucked in and the cloud of smoke making the birds drop from the sky I would like it sorting ASAP.

It's always had a small amount of pollution come from the rear but the golf driver on the way home tonight wasn't pleased with his lack of view and black front end.

Thanks in advance.

Sound like a split turbo boost pipe, look under the bonnet while somebody revs the engine, this should help you locate where the noise is coming from. Usually get oil residue coming out of a split turbo boost pipe, it's normal, sometimes helps locate the fault.

Thanks, I have ordered all new turbo/intercooler pipes. Sounds like it's from the bottom left of the car, and checking it seems that my intercooler pipe has become very brittle and is cracking. I pick up the parts today and will hopefully get them fitted. Do you know if it's and easy/quick job?

Can't remember exactly but turbo hoses in general are relatively easy to fit, sometimes maybe a little fiddly to get your hands in, you may need new jubilee clips and I find using a 1/4 drive ratchet and socket the most effective way to tighten/loosen the jubilee clips.

Thanks, had the car parked up since it split, will start the battle when I get home from work. This car has been such bad luck since moving house. It attracts problems the main one being a woman crashed into it a few weeks after moving in haha let's hope this is the last problem,. Thanks for all your help will let you know how successful I am .

Hi, I am experiencing the same issue with my fiat bravo 1.9 diesel, was blowing black smoke on acceleration, as for the whistle sound would only appear when driving more faster.

I was told it was because of the egr value clogged up.

what makes you think its the turbo holes?

Fixed ours last night. Turns out I was correct and it was the very first pipe connecting to the intercooler had a split the size of a 50p. Gave it a good drive and cleared the black smoke and so much more responsive makes me wonder how long it's had a small split in it for.

I would start but checking your hoses mate, it's very likely to be a split if your getting smoke and the noise. Is it down on power? Have you got someone to rev it why you try and find where the whistle is coming from?

There is no loss of power. I have revved it hard while idling and black smoke would appear. No weird sounds only when I'm actually driving hear sound at 38mph.

Any oil trace around the hoses? Ours started off very faint at first with what felt like no power loss up untill it blew properly. I would still say it's the turbo/intercooler pipes. If you can locate anything I do have spare hoses I can help you out with maybe. It's hard to help without seeing it.

I did notice some oil/black soot around one of the pipes coming out from the turbo? But my mechanic said thats normal, he advised me its the EGR ? I do hear a hissing sound when accelerating over 30mph otherwise below I hardly hear it. Did you have same issue?

mine at the moment whistles that loud sounds like a police car following me but I've got lack of power upto 2k then power kicks in proper

Yes that's how ours started. but ours was lower down. Mine has done 88k and there's not oil around the turbo pipe so that would indicate the split to be around that area. You could try cleaning or getting an egr blanking plate? That's what I will be doing with ours next. If you do come across a split in the turbo pipe I do have a good secondhand one if you need it. It's frustrating not knowing where or why it's happening isn't it (n)

dtwelve: to me that's normally a sound of a turbo that's on its way out? Sorry to scare you. But don't take my word for it. I'm assuming you mean a police siren sound?

I will try a new EGR if that doesnt work then I will look to inspect any damage pipes, so will be in touch. (y)

Confirmed: Just had a closer look under the car, Located a Split Pipe on the Left Side, Where it Bends. I think same problem as you.

Was this the pipe you required? - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/FIAT-STIL...999279?hash=item4d465d446f:g:AyQAAOSwnNBXZ5bY

Do you have the spare part ? Etc Message me on here

Thanks

Is it the very first pipe connecting to the intercooler? If so yes. They aren't the exact same but managed to fit mine and it works perfectly. It's a half hour job. Make sure you get replacement jubilee clips.
