Hi, I bought a 2008 1.9 Dynamic Bravo (120bhp) on Saturday, it's my first time owning a fiat and today a warning bulb keeps flashing up telling me to check the stop lights. I've checked and they are working ok. Please can someone tell me if this could just be a sensor or something more serious? Has anyone else experienced this and if so, how was it fixed please?

The rear lights consist of three bulbs I believe. Check them all when you take the light off. But I also had a problem with the number plate bulb. It wasn't gone but the connection was loose and would a road bump would knock it off and on

Ah thanks for your reply. I'm guessing it's a connection as it comes on and off, rather than being continous. Thanks fot your reply, I'll have my husband take a look tomorrow.

When you check the brake lights and find them all working fine, you are only checking the brake lights. All the bulbs earth through a common connection, and if this is failing, each bulb will try to find an earth through the others. Testing each bulb individually shows no problems, but if two are put on at once, they will fight. When the warning light comes on, you are probably using the indicators at the same time, or have the tail lights on.

Turn on ALL the rear lamps at once. Tail, Brake, Fog, Reverse, Indicator. See which side is causing the problem. Get the lamp apart and sort all the bulb earths and the main earth connection from the lamp to the body.

Ah yes, come to think about it you are right. When it happens, my tail lights are on too. Today it didn't happen and this would be because I didn't need the lights on. Thanks for that, it's really helpful.
