Hi guys, i own a tjet 120 with robotic gearbox.
Currently its on stock turbo with stage 2 remap, using a 2.75 down pipe with no catalityc converter.
About 180~ engine hp
I would like to know what turbo's are recommened to replace the stock one with and how much power i can get,
and how much power does the gearbox can handle,
Which turbo does the tjet 150 use? The 170 on giuletta?
Ive heard td04 is a good option,
What would i need to replace with a new turbo? Nothing? Exhaust manifold? Intercooler?
Ofc i will do a new remap after the replacement
Thanks in advance guys

To change the turbo you will either need to find one with the same size flange or pipe outlet im not sure what size turbo the 150 has but the 165D has a garret 55205835

High the 150 has VL36 basically the same housing as the VL37 you should have but with just a different turbine.
To fit a TD04 you'd need a new flange, downpipe and obviously new piping for the air filter.

Revlimit is probably one of the more experienced tuning companies when it comes to the Tjet engine range. That link will show you what else they do with their TD04 upgrade and what power you could be looking at (y)

I guess id go for the vl36, as it doesnt require too much mods except for a remap, right?

Why? at the most you're going to gain 20hp. There's very few 150hp that are pushing above 200bhp with remaps. VL36 would only require a new map yes, but it's a lot of money you're spending on just 20hp where other turbo could get you more gains.
Next best options for a turbo upgrade is the:

  • GT1446 on the Abarth Grande Punto SS (which should get you to +220 hp) and would require a new downpipe, air intake and maybe a flange for exhaust manifold

  • TD04 from a Subaru, these are the ultimate turbo upgrade getting Bravo's up to 300whp with other engine mods, but just a straight swop should get you get 235hp. But this needs new injectors besides the usual stuff needing to be replaced so it can fit.

I am looking for about 180-190 wheel horse power,
To be honest im feeling that above that is too much for this car, with 150 wheel hp its already very easy to make it loose traction and go crazy.
Ill add a note that mine is dualogic gearbox not manual so im not sure if it will hold the power and torque from these turbos, what do u think?
My downpipe is 2.75" with no catalytic converter, for the gt1446 id need a new one? What size is recommended?

In my opinion 150 is too little. The car can put down so much more power. I don't have issues with grip, it's probably your tyres. I drive with ASR on so the Traction control always does it job and does kinda slow you down a bit in 1st and 2nd gear, but that's mostly because of the torque of the turbo. Gearboxes are meant to be strong. If I'm correct the Dualogic boxes are also on the Diesel Bravos and they have tons of Torque. If you go to a tuner that knows what they're doing they'll be able to keep the torque not to high (for example I've seen 200bhp Bravos with 320nm and they ended up with broken boxes, but Revlimit can do 200bhp with 285nm and keep your gearbox safe).

2.75" sounds a bit big. I'm used to metric units so 2.75" converts to 70mm which is large. The vl36/vl37 turbo outlet is 63,5mm/2.5" (that's why I have a 63mm downpipe) so I think yours is a bit large. The GT1446 also has a turbo outlet of 63,5mm/2.5".

Well my engine with the stock 120 turbo outputs 150 wheel hp and 300nm torque, should i be worried about the box? The hp torque in engine is about 170/315
And i think ill still go for the vl36 as its a simple fit and no need other mods, the flange and manifold for the gt, are they custom made? Or i can find those on ebay to get a bit of proportion of the prices

I don't think you should have a reason to worry. Like I said, if I'm correct the Dualogic is also on the Diesel Bravos which means they'll bit built to withstand large amounts of torque. It is the manual box on the Tjets, the M32, that caused all the problems. Some say the M32 is only rated for 320nm like the name suggests and this is why running +300nm on it could turn out with a broken gearbox.

VL36 can still achieve 200bhp at the flywheel so if that's all you want, then go for it (y)

Well considering the Abarth Grande Punto SS has the exact same engine block and stuff, you should be able to find the exhaust manifold for that and fit it on your bravo to make the GT1446 to fit. However there's a small chance the exhaust manifold on your Bravo might actually fit allow you to fit the GT1446. I'd recommend going to speak to someone with a bit more knowledge of turbos, more specifically Garrett's and they should be able to help you determine whether you would need a new Exhaust Manifold (I think it would be better to get a new exhaust manifold than have to get a custom made flange to get the GT1446 to fit.)

As we dont have the grande punto ss here, whats the engine name used there? So i could make a little research and check things out

The Grande Punto SS also has the Tjet engine. Exactly the same as the Bravo.
Here's a list of cars with the 1.4 Tjet engine and the GT1446:
  • Abarth Punto Evo
  • Alfa Romeo Mito QV 1.4 Multiair
  • Alfa Romeo Giulietta TB 1.4 Multiair

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the short discussion on turbo replacement:

I am in the process of replacing my turba as the exhaust housing has cracked and there is no way of repairing it.

I have spoken to a Turbo specialist here in our city of Pretoria, SA and they have recommended the IHI VC 420018 Isuzu 250 KB/Fiat Brava diesel turbo ( for 4JA1T engine - as a replacement.

Not only is turbo nearly a direct bolton, but there is also no other modifications to do - except change the current DP flange to fir the new turbo.

Also not expensive

Ill post a pic of the turbo

Please tell me your thoughts...
