Hello,

had this happen last night on my 09 fiat bravo 2.0 multijet.

I've had the dpf removed on my car so is going to be an issue if I can't get it done straight away? (Bank holiday today and I need to go out).

Any way I can reset it myself or does it have to be a fiat dealer?

Also, why does it happen if you service the car as recommended???

cheers :)

U cant reset it, for do that you need FES and elm cable. Obviously the car was not regularly serviced, it is recommended to be serviced (oil+filter) once a year, not like manual says on every 35000!

Probably whoever serviced the car did not reset the engine computer oil change counter, just the service light. You need a computer, an interface cable and a copy of Multiecuscan (MES) or Alfaobd to do a reset, You can drive the car,but eventually it will go into limp mode.
Where are you located? I have MES and am near Cambridge.

Wrong, when the car tell you with the 1.6 and 2.0 MJ, which ever is sooner. Its done separately to the main servicing.

Although most peoples personal choice is to do it sooner, or at the same time as a normal service for ease.

Thanks in in Huddersfield so a little far away.

I've had the car serviced twice in about 15k miles as I don't do much milage.

I'll have a ask if any of the fiat specialist can sort it before I go to main dealer then :)

Hi,
go back (or call) to the garage that last changed the oil and ask them "what they reset" when they serviced it. Unless thery say "service indicator AND ECU oil change counter" They didn't do it properly. You should also ask them to show you the oil change counter information on their computer (you will have to take the car in to them). If they can't do that then again they did not do it properly. You cannot reset the oil change counter in the engine control unit with one of the simple generic code readers. It has to have the specific capability for the Fiat Diesel engines.

Thanks.
I don't think he has a Fiat specific one as it's a normal garage but one over been using for years. I'll call round whilst I'm out though and double check :)

Had a chat and he's going to clear it on Friday whilst I get the brakes done :)

See if he can show you the oil change counter and oil degradation on the computer before and after he resets it.

Both are one of the same are they not

The computer does 2 things - service counter, which car is serviced (excluding oil changes). Degration index is reset when oil is changed (oil service reset), there isn't a 3rd function (oil reset) per say from my understanding, its just part of the degradation index reset isn't it?

When I checked my Croma 1.9 16V after purchase I was able to use MES to tell me how many times the engine oil counter had been reset (3, but 5 oil changes in book all but 1 "Fiat" stamped) and the current oil degredation level. So they are recorded separately. IIRC it also show KM since last reset.
