Hello all,

On Friday I collected a black 58 plate Bravo 1.6 Multijet Dynamic Eco 105 and I absolutely love it. However, I have noticed something that I thought I'd ask about. Whenever I fire it up from cold, a message pops up accompanied with a beep in the multifunction display screen saying "insufficient engine oil pressure" then "switch off engine" or words to that effect. It only says this once for about a second, then it disappears as if nothing was ever shown. It only happens when the car has been standing a few hours, it starts up without issue otherwise.

The car drives without a hint of bother, it doesn't feel rough, there's no warning lights and nothing seems untoward. I've checked the oil and it's just below the max (it was last serviced in April according to the history at 47k, its done 55k now), so that probably rules low oil level out. The car is under a months warranty so I'll speak to the dealer I bought it from asap, but I just wondered if anyone had any ideas as to what could be wrong with it?

Regards,
Kieran

My old 57 plate bravo used to do that if it stalled,or even if I got in the car put key turned it to just before turning engine over and left it a couple of minutes then turned key gt would do that same thing,duno why it was but didn't have any bother with it either way.but if you have Warrenty get it checked out

You've one of two likely issues, either a worn oil pump not getting up to oil pressure quick enough, or a faulty pressure sensor which is out of tolerance and not reading the pressure correctly.

If not the latter on each start up you will be potentially causing excessive wear on the engine, so worth getting it looked at.

I took the car in yesterday and it was put under the diagnostics...no faults found. The garage even checked the sensor and everything was fine. I'm going to take it to Fiat because I'm stumped now.

Hi, I have this same problem on the engine 2.0 Mjet. The message "Insufficient engine oil pressure stop and turn off engine" appears only in the morning when you first start or turn off the car for 10-12 hours. The message is displayed for 2 seconds and disappears. No error ECU, pressure oil pump 4-4.5 bars, oil Selenia WR PE 5W-30 oil filter replaced 2x. Thanks for the help.

The problem is in a seal gasket between oil pump and pump intake.
This is the issue on Lancia Delta and Fiat Bravo 2.0 mjet, so i suppose it is the same with 1.6 mjet engines.
I will try to find part number.

THANX but i cannot understand exactly, is it dangerous for the engine?
the part number you say, is about spare part that will change and fix the problem?

the message shows up only at cold starts, not during driving, andaccording to the ownersmanual, has to do with oil decomposition due to DPF regenerations...tomorow i am going for oil+filter change so i can see if this is wrong
I am asking is the problem persists, what should I check next...

Hi, :)
the ECU has stored parameters for oil degradation,

when the oil is changed - these need to be reset,
otherwise the engine will not regen. correctly,

SEARCH "degradation" in the 500 section for more information;)

Oil+filter changed, service and oil change were reseted via diagnostics, message keeps showing at cold starts..... Next step???

As Most EasterlyPandas said;

the reason you get the warning is the cars ECU is seeing LOW oil pressure;

1, change the oil pressure sensor

2,check the wiring between sensor and the ECU

3, overhaul the oil pump

My Missus` 2008 1.9 Bravo had this issue a couple of years back but would also just cut the engine so was a big issue for her. After the car stood for about 10 mins, it would start up again and continue. It got quite regular and annoying.
Got it looked at by local garage and turned out to be a crank position sensor if memory serves correct. Cant remember how much it cost but wasn't a fortune.

Hope this helps
