I have a 6 year old, 40,000 mile Bravo 1.6 multijet (6 months old to me). It had been serviced regularly by fiat before I got it and had had no problems.

I have had new brakes front and back, rear suspension and a cam belt fitted (expensive!), I am fitting some new front suspension tomorrow. When I am going along at 30mph in 3rd or 4th there is a whining sound when I am not pressing the accelerator.

When I press it the engine starts to sound and as far as I can hear the whining goes away. It does not happen at any other speeds.

Any thoughts?

I think you've answered your own question there. It could be your cambelt mate.

It was there before, sorry, that was not clear before. I mentioned the New cam belt to discount that as the issue.

Alright. So does the gearbox need replacing or do I just put up with the noise if it is that?

The diesel gearbox is actually a pretty tough thing, in comparison to the brittle m32 box they put in the T-jet engines. It might not even be your gearbox but if you suspect it is get it in to a garage for them to take a look, it's always good to try and replicate the issue to the garage who will look at it. Dependant on the issue it may just be a bearing replacement, or could be serious and need a whole new gearbox. It might even be something daft like the bearings in your wheels but it's probably best to get it checked at a garage mate
