Fiat Bravo HID correct beam pattern? help

Hello there guys this is my first post so be easy on me. I've recently bought a bravo which I love. But I am disappointed with the stock halogen dipped beam. So after doing some research on this website I've gone ahead and installed a 35w 5000k HID kit.

My concern is the glare and beam pattern. I do not want to be driving around blinding other drivers. I've posted some photos of the setup below. Please let me know what you think. Im sure the cutoff is acceptable.

Re: Fiat Bravo HID correct beam pattern? help

I Think its fine if it helps you see better. So long as the beams low enough as not to blind other drivers.

Can I ask where you got the kit and how much they cost with bulbs?

I'm interested in doing the conversion to mine as I work shifts and do quite a bit of night driving and agree the dipped beam could be brighter. Thanks.

Hello there. Thanks for the reply. They are very clear at night time and I have not had anyone flash me as of yet.

I bought them from an ebayer under the name of Londoncolour. People on other forums recommended him. Next day delivery and only 26 quid.

Ebay item number is:
330379335700

The forum won't let me post a link.

Re: Fiat Bravo HID correct beam pattern? help

Hi. No probs.

Thanks for the eBay item.

They look really good for the price. Were they easy to fit? Do you know what bulb is required for a Bravo? What temperature did you get?

Thankyou.

Re: Fiat Bravo HID correct beam pattern? help

The left side was easier to install than the right as the battery leaves little room to work with. The hardest thing to do is pushing the clips on as they are quite tight with the bulbs supplied. The ballasts are slim too which are a bonus. The fiat bravo dipped beam is a H1 bulb type. I went for 35 watt, 5000K. Pure white.

No warning lights on the dash. In the bravos manual it says the light/bulb warning is for near enough everything else but not the dipped beam which is handy.

Re: Fiat Bravo HID correct beam pattern? help

After looking it seems that they arnt canbus error free. Do you not have a light on your dashboard?

Dipped and main beam are not monitored so will not trigger a warning.

OP how they look front on is irreverent, the beam pattern is how it appears on the road and against a wall. It should be \___ \____ (kick up to the left) which yours seem to :)

Its worth bearing in mind your modification isn't legal, and could have insurance implications. You also seem to show genuine concern yourself about the setup.

Personally I'd remove them and stick to legal bulbs and fit some uprated Filament Xenon bulbs to stay on the right side of the law and protect yourself (y)

Re: Fiat Bravo HID correct beam pattern? help

Guys, can someone tell me if the bulbs for main and dipped beam on the bravo are the same or different?

I'm looking at the option of upgrading to good quality halogens - Phillips Ultra Bright/Osram Night Breakers, just need to know what the bulbs are for main and dipped?

Thanks.

I've gotten some of those halfrauds bulbs that are meant to have like 120% more than a standard bulb. Although brilliant they can't compare to HID's. At least he's only had 5000k which are quite white instead of those horrible blinding blue ones the chavs stick in old corsa's. Now they are evil. though yes technically they are still illegal. Something about headlight washers and auto balance headlights or something isn't it?

Re: Fiat Bravo HID correct beam pattern? help

Yes technically it isn't legal, as the bulbs used are not e marked. I read on a forum a guy contacted vosa that if a car pre 2011 has hid's installed they do not have to have self levelling and washers. How true this is I do not know. Take everything with a pinch of salt.

I will see how I go on. Probably will end up taking them out.

All depends if you wanna take the risk i suppose. I like the look and would love lights that bright but i wouldn't wanna have to take them out at mot time, just to put them back again. Then there's the insurance issue as well...

The info I have so far about the bulbs is that both main and dipped beam bulbs are h1 type.

Can anyone confirm that this is correct? Thanks.

Well according to the mot government website

motinfo.gov.uk/htdocs/m4s01000701.htm

It says:
Vehicles equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) or LED dipped beam headlamps may be fitted with headlamp washers and a suspension or headlamp self levelling system.

May being the important word. The only illegal thing about these HID kits is they are not e marked.

Yes the fiat bravo uses H1 in the dipped beam. It also tells you that in the cars manual.

Re: Fiat Bravo HID correct beam pattern? help

The only illegal thing about these HID kits is they are not e marked.

And the units they're fitted into are not type approved for the use of HIDs and so on and so forth ;)

If it isn't a requirement then why are all OEM setup's fitted with washers and self leveling systems

Is that true? I didn't realise the projector lens has to be hid certified? I just thought things had to be e marked and give a correct beam pattern. I.e a reflector housing is e marked, put an hid bulb in which is e marked/approved but gives a terrible beam pattern is not acceptable.

I read that cars after 2011 have to have the washing systems and levelling. Probably for other country legislations or just a safety precaution. I know Irelands mot says that HID's must have washers and levelling.

Such a grey area. I've been searching for a bravo oem projector housing and ballast system from a scrap yard and ebay. Not many about though.

Re: Fiat Bravo HID correct beam pattern? help

Thanks psr21 for confirming. Couldn't find my manual. :)

Cheers.
