Adding rear electric windows

Hi all, been reading & enjoying the forum for a while but now I'm wondering if I can upgrade my 2008 1.9D Multisport with electric rear windows. Can I simply plug 'n' play by taking the motors, switches and any loom connections from another model?

It seems possible as lots of manufacturers have the looms in place but don't fit the motors if they're not on the build sheet. I've read that the cruise control simply connects and is recognized , but I'm worried that the windows might need relays and possibly an exchange of control unit.

Anyone done this or got an useful information about this upgrade? Thanks.

Re: Adding rear electric windows

Not possible without silly money.

You need new replacement ECU's for both rear doors and drivers door to see them, Wiring isn't likly to be in place, Fiat haven't done this for years with the exception of CC in some cases.

In addition to this you'll need the body computer to recognise them, again might need a new one fitting for this.

In short, either keep as it is - not that much of an issue from personal experience, or sell it and buy one with them already fitted

Thanks for the quick reply, it sounds more trouble than it's worth.

Only wanted to stop the kids from kicking the handles, opening the windows and letting condensation in overnight. Oh well, on to plan B. Do you know how to stop objects rolling around in the boot?

Re: Adding rear electric windows

Have to admit I did wonder if I'd miss having electric rear windows when I bought the Bravo but then I never sit in the back or opened them before anyhow! But I think if I had kids then it would probably be a totally different kettle of fish

Sounds like you might just have to get used to checking the windows every time you park up!

This is what I would do. And then add a grommet or a cap to the hole

Re: Adding rear electric windows

So, let's revive an old thread! I currently have a 57 plate 1.9 on my drive, that has electric rear windows. That's going to scrap regardless, unless anyone wants it with no third gear, no wheels and no ticket.

Anywho, the question is this, yes there are quite a few bits to swap over, but can I put the rear windows in my 60 plate? I'll try and keep the 60 plates door cards as it's a sport model, but I don't mind chopping and changing trim etc.

If so is it just motors, runners, switches and body computer? Unlike the chap above I have the advantage of a whole donor car

Thanks chaps

Re: Adding rear electric windows

The answer is most likely yes - The stuff regarding the body computer I don't agree is true, yes, a car without electric windows has a different setting in the body computer BUT this can be changed yourself with the right tools - For example, I could change it on my Bravo with my smartphone (running the AlfaOBD app) and my OBDLink MX - as long as you have your CODE card (if you don't, you can go to a FIAT dealership and get them to look it up in their database).

Regarding the wiring i'm not sure. But I know the door has a 12v constant supply for lighting and the power locks so if you're desperate then you could probably tap into that if you didn't want to start running new cables, only disadvantage would be there'd be no control from the front.
