I suspect not as it'll bring up errors I'd have thought?

to replace sensors,do you just swap over or do they get programmed in ??

You just swap them out, had one done a month back.

Don't know about the UK but here in Ireland if a TPMS is fitted on a vehicle from new it is tested (not sure how) and has to be working for the MOT test.
Afaik its also required under EU regs.

Is that not only if its got run flat tyres fitted?

I think it applies to any car fitted with a TPMS (I don't know about the UK MOT, just Ireland's NCT). Only cars fitted with run-flat tyres that I know of are some/all? modern BMW's + possibly Mini's. But I think TPMS's are or will shortly be required on all new cars sold in the EU not just those fitted with run-flat tyres.
I don't know a great deal about TPMS, just threw this out for the OP, wouldn't like him to remove the TPM sensor and run into problems later (MOT?, Insurance cover in the event of an accident? etc.).

I take it they just screw in ? Do you order for specific wheel i.e n/s front etc ??
