I have it just make the gear feel closer together
The other 90% of the time your driving the car there's no difference

You have it wrong.
The whole gear changing experience changes for the better. The slope is gone, the shifter feels a bit heavier, the shifts are precise and direct.

I've felt some that are absolutely awful
None have really made the car much better to drive

To each his own.

I can tell you i have it installed in my Bravo for more than 6 years;
Any time i've had to drive another Bravo the shifters always feel broken.
One look at the connecting bush for the selector will confirm a 3-4 mm slop ate the selector, which translates to 2-3 cm slop at the shifter.
