Drove 3 miles to the post office this morning en route to work. Parked up, no issues on the journey.

Come out 5 min later, go to start the car, and just turns over, no firing, after about 6 seconds of turning over dash beeps and displays 'Check Fuel Filter'.

Stop cranking and then restart, and the same issue :bang:

Leave it for 30 seconds, and turns and fires first time as she should.

Any idea's as to what this could be  Not sure if its a one off blip or a sign of issues to come. I'll check the wiring on the fuel filter later today or tomorrow, but just wanted some potential heads up in advance.

Jon.

My 2.0 Multijet does the same thing from time to time. It's been doing it for a while without anything more serious cropping up.

I did have the usual EGR and DPF issues early on but they were sorted. Unfortunately I lost my job earlier this year and have struggled to do the mileage the car requires. I was getting a bit worried that this was causing the rough starting and warning message but can still tell that the car is managing to complete its regen on the odd motorway journeys I do so am not too worried altogether. Nothing came up on the service and MOT a few months ago anyway.

Coincidental or not I'm not sure but I put a bottle of Forte diesel treatment through the system every so often and most recently the starting issue seems to have disappeared... for now.

My Stilo did this a couple of years ago but when starting from cold rather than warm. It turned out to be the Crank Sensor (£35 plus labour and VAT = £100).

Whilst mine did it from cold I was told it's unusual as it usually causes problems on hot starts. Check your fuel filter, the warning message might be right (Stilo doesn't have this message I believe), but if you can't find anything amiss with the fuel filter i'd try a Crank Sensor as it's pretty cheap.

Just a follow up on this.

I had the same happen again on boxing day, however this time I noticed the immobiliser light wasn't going out, and I was very quick to shove key in and turn to start.

Removed the key, locked and unlocked the car with the remote locking, went to start again and away she went.

So looks more like I was being to fast in my starting, normally get the glow plugs go out, except for when the car is still warm, and both times this has happened have been when I've tried to start the car quickly, so I assume its the immobiliser cut being deactivate.
