Hi Fiat Forum!
Just signed up today but I've found the advice on this forum very helpful since I bought my first Fiat (aw) last year.

Enough brown-nosing. Guess what? I'm looking for advice.

I own a 57 plate Bravo 1.4 16v and the heater selection knob just turns and turns. It started occasionally failing to select a speed then got worse from there.. almost as if the thread or whatever keeps the knob attached to the spindle has worn out.

To clarify, this is the central knob that allows you to select the heater speed/strength. (it's stuck on "2")

I was going to remove the facia and have at it with some adhesives.

Having read the eLearn guide to removing the unit, it seems a knife like tool is required, no surprises there.

I just wanted to ask if anyone knows a way to remove it without said tool, or can anyone offer advice on how to remove the unit without causing any damage, cosmetic or otherwise.

I'm not averse to taking it to the dealer if that's what it's gonna take, I'd rather have a crack at it myself first if it's an easy enough job.

Thanks in advance for any tips.

Hi,

Not had this happen to me before....If you get it sorted, let me know. Is it just set to 2, but still works...???

Hey there.. thats right.
It must have been on 2 when it finally gave up, now the knob just turns freely in either direction

I think the guide linked above by 850kd will work... I had a stab at it but it felt like I was going to break the silver surround (around the gear stick)

I tried skipping that step to see how far I could get, managed to get the curved plastic plate between the heater and the stereo off and had a poke around but couldn't jimmy out the heater unit... I think because there's a piece of the centre console at either side that's preventing me geting any decent purchase on the heater.

The car was due for it's MOT last week so I asked the garage to have a look at it but they couldn't do it either, apparently.

I'm going to try again - and take more time to try and remove the dash components without damaging them.

I'll post here if I have any success but the guide linked earlier in this thread looks like its bang on.

Like I tell most people... just download the Bravo eLearn manual and it'll be a breeze.

One thing I see you saying "I had a stab at it but it felt like I was going to break the silver surround"... You go between the chrome part and the "carbon wrap look" part with a screw driver wedged in... leaver it and it'll pop out very easily. You won't break it, once you've done it once you'll be amazed how easily it came out.

Thanks for the tip.. I dunno if its just the way its fitted in my car but it felt like it was gonna snap.. maybe (probably) i was doing it wrong.
